D Plates

Postby dgobo » May 31st, 2014, 11:11 pm

Hey guys i need to borrow/ rent a set of D Plates.

Ive got a foreign used vehicle arriving on the 13th of June. I will have insurance on the chassis number for the car, so just the D Plates are required.

If anyone knows of anyone let me know

David

Thanks

So why license office can't provide you with D plates?

You are aware that borrowing or renting of D plates illegal right?

If you're bringing in the vehicle for yourself you don't need any plates. Just keep the customs documentation in the vehicle and just drive home and then to l.o.

^^ I actually did that on the last three cars I imported. I was stopped by police with the last car and after explaining that I imported it under a personal license was allowed to continue.

So what I've been told driving it off the port is no problem but carrying it to have the tires inspected and then to be license on another day is a problem

No, it's tied to a individual/registered business

Flat bed wrecker is the solution.

What kind of car is it? I have access to d plates and would do it for free if the car is interesting enough. I have to drive tho. :)

just to add to everyone's opinion/ experience. It is not legal to drive from the port to home on a cover note alone. Either a d plate or a wrecker.note:d plates really should not be rented etc. But we do it. It is catered for in the mv and rt act to take your car to L.O with just a cover note, not d plate required, after all, youre an individual who should not have a d plate in the first place, thats for business n dealers etc.police stopped me a week ago and threatened to charge n ticket me for no plates either front or rear.the car has no plates here until registered so whats the real charge? Thats why L.O caters for it ONLY for the purpose of it being registered. Check the mv n rt 'registration of motor vehicle' part II about four paras down.will get the exact section n subsection and post it.
