Okay, posting this once, and once alone....
Japanese RoRo Import Process:-
1. You have to pay cash to remit payment to supplier via wire transfer, they will give you all the bank info to a US account
UPDATE: Due to the Japanese knowing our USD shortage, they allow you to wire Japanese Yen (which is easier to obtain from the bank)
2. Request a reserve for the US at the bank
N/A if wiring Yen
3 Wait for package with original invoice, bill of lading (2), japan certified copy, english certified copy, certificate of deregistration
-Ask then to send via DHL express and email, so you get it faster (get a good rep who would be willing to scan and send the documents)
4. Get your import license (Ministry of Trade- Maritime Building, Barataria) -Owner has to go in person
5. When it reaches the port, they'll call the number provided to them
Usually takes 6-8 weeks
6. (i) Go to banker's insurance which is located in the building next to licensing office (Heart and Chest Association compound) to obtain day insurance, just follow the sign labeled "insurance".
(ii) Clear the car out of the port
7. Collect whatever forms you need to register the vehicle from licensing office any day before. It is a green form/ leaflet. Make sure it is the correct form and read the form headings
8. Drive to TTBS at the VMCOTT compound next to Barataria exit of the Beetham.
Tires are checked, no problem. (you can arrange for yourself to pay 100.00 fee before hand, so you can just drive up to the inspection and drive out when finished).
9. Return to Licensing office, take the vehicle to the pit closest to 'REGISTRATION'. To reach there you drive into the main entrance and head down to the end of the car park and drive to the back of the compound, behind the main building. keep driving and you will see the pit.
10. Fill out engine and chassis number
11. Carry forms to the office named "roll on roll off".
12. The officer there will check and see if you have all documents (all original customs docs, invoice, certificates, tax receipt and etc.). Note: have a photocopy of your DP, Import License ready.
13. In the same 'registration' department, go to the cashier, pay $120 registration fee, and wait for your number. (It will be on a little receipt, be careful not to lose.)
14. After collecting this, insure the vehicle and get license plate and alarm system etc.
15. Return 3 working days after to collect the certified copy. (call beforehand)
PS: I have designed a calculator where you input the USD value of a vehicle, and the engine CC and get the value on the road. PM me to request as I would only share if requested.
