Shop owner kills hammer-toting bandit during robbery
A Curepe man was killed by a shop owner during an attempted robbery on Sunday morning — and the search continued yesterday for the dead man’s two female accomplices.
The deceased was identified as Dyke “Manicou” Skeete, 36, of Railway Road.
Officers on mobile patrol around 10.20 am on Sunday, were notified of a robbery in progress near the blue shop at Hutton Road, St Joseph.
Upon arrival, they met the father of the 34-year-old owner, who told them someone had attempted to rob his son and there had been a scuffle, during which time the bandit was stabbed, while his son was wounded.
Officers heard the wounded man was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Science Complex, Mt Hope, where he was treated and warded in a stable condition. Skeete meanwhile died around 11.04 am.
The injured man told officers he was at work around 10 am when he was approached by the deceased, whom he knew, who was armed with a hammer and in the company of two women. The trio announced a robbery.
Unwilling to just hand over cash and valuables, the victim reportedly picked up a knife and began fighting with the deceased and one of the women. Although he was successful in stabbing the deceased several times, the victim sustained injuries to the back of his head and hand.
Investigations are continuing.
