Which oil?

There is a thread with an oil discussion where it says some of them can work for both.

You are not the only one. ... used to use Chevron Delo 400 le I my gas engine. The diesel engine oil detergent package is generally a lot stronger than a gas engine oil. You don't want your engine too clean though

diesel engine oil has alot more detergents in it than regular gasoline oil.
WRT to thickness....10W 30 is still 10W 30.. no matter what type of engine its made for.
same as saying an inch on a ruler in Trinidad and an inch on a ruler in china is the SAME inch.....

neighbor uses castrol Hyperion oil in his suzuki...no problems.

I'm curious as to why you would choose to use diesel engine oil vs a gasoline oil.

In theory it may sound like a good idea but there's a reason the API classifications are different. Too much of a detergent package is not necessarily a good thing.

Why not use any of the 100 oils designed for your car?

It was cheaper. .. Plain and simple. ... Most are rated for both diesel and gas engines :-)

I went one step further and started using diesel instead of premium in my almera
the combination of diesel motor oil and diesel fuel in my gas engine is awesome....I spend so much less at the pump now!!!

In the US,wrx/sti and evo owners swear by shell rotella (diesel oil)
20us dollars at your nearest walmart for a 5l ,cant be beat.
With hundreds of used oil analysis done showed no ill effects.

Wait wait wait
Premium.....in an almera. That almera is the most blessed car in Trinidad... You clearly don't want to spend less at the pump

On another note.
I recall someone mistakenly filling up diesel (from near empty) in a gas engined Grand Vitara. .. Didn't go very far. About 4 car lengths to the bar across from the station and that was it. ... was even funnier when I found out the owner pumped it himself after refusing assistance from the pump attendants.

Cheap engine oil. ..Still have some Delo from the Psmart

Liqui Moly oils work on both gas and diesel engines, but I'm not sure on how good they are.

Once the oil has both C and S API ratings you good.

Anything else like Delo and Rotella are C rated only.

Go ahead, keep using it, it wukkin good. I'm sure your manuals call for CJ or CI rated oils.

Except that the bottles of delo that I have stocked reads CJ-4/SM...
It's all good..... Did I mention cheap. .. It used to be 110 for a gallon... its now up to about 140 though.

I stand corrected on the Delo then.

As i said, once it has an API S rating somewhere in there, you good.

Why would CVT make a difference?
