Bandits steal $50,000 from businessman
...but escape without loot

HELICOPTERS hovered over San Fernando and police officers combed the streets around High Street yesterday as two armed thieves ran off with $50,000 in a robbery.

And as police officers pursued them, the suspects dropped the money bag along a storm drain that runs under several business and which leads to Kings Wharf, San Fernando.

At around 1.30 p.m., a businessman, who minutes earlier had withdrawn the cash from a San Fernando bank, was walking along Pointe-a-Pierre Road.

In the vicinity of Pennywise Cosmetics, two thieves approached the businessman and snatched the bag and ran.

Police said security officers employed with Amalgamated Security Services Limited, who were standing nearby, chased the suspects.

However, the thieves fired several shots at the security officers and managed to escape.

A civilian found the money bag at Short Street, and turned it into the police.

A party of police officers of the San Fernando CID and Southern Division Task Force, led by Senior Superintendant of the Southern Division Cecil Santana, Assistant Superintendent Zamsheed Mohammed and Inspector Don Gajadhar, visited the scene and led a search party for the suspects.

However, they were not found.

Question...
I've heard the theory that it's usually an "inside job".. meaning the bank tellers or managers or whomever, are the ones who tip off the bandits that a certain person just withdrew XYZ in cash, etc. maybe receiving a "cut" of the loot.

And seeing that it's mostly Republic Bank where these victims hold their accounts and transact these large sums of money, is it then safe to say RBL pays so low that their employees hadda supplement their salary?!
