TTKA Kart racing cancelled today

TTKA was carded to have their first event at ARC car park today after voluntarily cancelling their first event in January. However when the tent contractor was erecting the tents at the venue early this morning, the Police arrived and instructed them to take the tents down as no Police permission was granted to have an event there today.
On contacting the Police, TTKA President Rae Smith was informed by the Police Superintendent that the area was a crime hotspot and they could not be allowed to have the event.

TTKA and ARA are enquiring as to how CARS had their event at ARC last weekend and TTASA had their event in Arima the weekend before with no Police interruptions. ARA had their Drag & Wind event cancelled by Police in January also citing Arima as a crime hotspot. This triggered TTKA to also cancel their January event.

TTUNDRA cancelled their drag race event today as well due to EMA reports of a toxic substance at Camden airstrip.

This brings the number to 7 motorsport events cancelled so far for 2014. Unfortunately the murder rate in T&T is not so low

It is time for a media blitz... Publicly asking for an answer, show history of successful events held, and show other activities held in the area, publicly demand an answer, get on every morning show and every radio, just like every other sector that gets victimized, turn the greater public on your side, get lawyers who looking for political mileage involved. Sitting around and cryin and cussin and pointing out the cause is not changing anything.

I wish somebody does something tangible, is no one in racing also involved in marketing and know how to use Publicity to get what they want.

This is so sad. Yet when CARS had their event the police service had a tent. They are using us conveniently

This is really starting to sound like the police overstepping their bounds. Would love to see the paper work that says the event had to be cancelled reason being hotspot. So then there is a curfew in the area then. Did ARC have a horse racing event the other day, so then that was cancelled as well then.

This not making any sense. Since when police have to be so involved in the running of private events in private locations.

so im guessing the soca monarch semis taking place in the velodrome tonite would be cancelled seeing that the area is a "hotspot",or is it just the ARC car park considered the 'hotspot"...

A couple of the guys decided to try and practice - remember this is a private car park that TTKA have paid to rent, and the police came back after they had done just three laps and told them they had to stop!

How exactly does a Big OPEN car park in the daytime with a sporting event translate into a Hot spot?
Rolling stock might be able to shed some light on this matter.

I agree with a previous comment, Carnival is also a dangerous time- so CANCEL it now before its too late

Sounds like they're looking for bribe money.

Unless the car clubs get something in writing from the Commissioner of Police we'll be spinning top in mud. Though I wonder if they'll even acknowledge that.

I don't think the management of arc would care tooooo much. While they support Motorsport, they are fairly neutral. What's happening is Orc mischief.

For your information, there are 34 carded dates to be used at ARC, and payments have to be made for each.

This is not a matter for ARC.

But Note, ARA shut down, then CARS was NOT shut down, and then TTKA promptly shut down and not even one 18 year old or the younger ones allowed to even make practice laps.

And yes attempts are being made to go higher up to resolve this matter.

well Rawle, sorry to say, in light of all these events, we've elected to cancel the events we were looking to hold this year.....too much risk in us investing in events and then have police show up and say hard luck

Car shows don't have old farts fighting to control anything and very few are held in "hotspots" like arc.

Brush simply isn't wide enough.

We have never had to have police at a karting event and we have been using ARC for about 6 or 7years now without incident. TTKA is about family- we have racers as young as 6years old who compete! What must they be thinking? And the impressionable teenagers what about them?? Our main spectators are family of the racers who come out to support .

Im very disappointed in the cancellation, but i do hope you all had your eyes open. badge numbers, vehicle numbers.
