Thanks , parts can be found easily once people post it with pictures via the group photo album .

It's growing ... Currently at around 500 members in less than 1 day

well you could manually search the keywords by pressing ctrl + F or command +F ( per page)

The simplest way would be to press photos to the top of the group and scroll through the tiles till you see what you are looking for once they posted a picture of it

except that facebook doesn't load the entire page unless you scroll and scroll and scroll down - so a CTRL+F search will only give results for the text that is loaded so far, not all the text in the page.

iDynamic wrote:The simplest way would be to press photos to the top of the group and scroll through the tiles till you see what you are looking for once they posted a picture of it
might be tedious as it might be hard to make out an item in a thumbnail or when there are thousands of photos added it might be a real task to go through that many without being able to search.
Still though, interesting initiative - I'm subscribed!

correct , you can also subscribe to the notifications so when someone post something that you are interested in it automatically tells you about the item and then if you want you can open that notification to view the details.

Nice idea nonetheless. I'm sure it would still help some ppl find what they looking for a lil easier than usual. In that regard I guess its serving its purpose.

May be different on a mobile device but on a regular web browser, right under the group photo/banner, to the extreme right there's a magnifying glass to search. It would search the entire history.

IIRC that search is to search for users in the group, not for posts that they've made.

I just used it on the desktop version in Chrome and searched for "TEIN" and "coilovers" both of which Azan Arzard Ricardo Hosein posted 17 hours ago and it returns "No results". However if I search for "hosein" it returns his profile.

it did work for "SR20DET" that you posted however

not sure why it works for some search terms and not others. Perhaps it's the way it is posted?

A custom built website would be better suited for this. Searching for something on the page would be impractical because the whole page doesn't load it's content unless you scroll down. Outsiders (non fb users) would have to sign up to fb to post something. I can't even access the page without loggin in. Its worse than doi... trying a search on tuner - now thats bad.

our top search uses Google search. Our forum specific search uses PHPbb's native search
search.php

I think the major problem in finding stuff on trinituner or even on the D Facebook Bamboo is the fact that users may not use proper formatting.

For the trinituner forums we are currently working on a template for posting items for sale e.g.
In the car classifieds:
Prefix with FS / WTB / FT
Make:
Model:
Year:
Number Plate Series:
Mileage:
Colour:
Price:
etc etc etc

this should make the search work ALOT better.

Not sure how we plan to tackle bad spelling though. Someone posts "winsheen wipah" for sale and the buyer is correctly searching for "windshield" or "windscreen" "wiper"

tuner needs an advance search built in especially for the "cars - buy & sell" section. Even if ads were properly formatted without misspellings, narrowing down a search or being specific (searching by price range, make, model, etc) is still impractical using that keyword search feature. That would mean the interface for posting an ad will also need to be changed. Its the only reason why people enjoy browsing vehicles on that other flop site over trinituner.

There really ought to be a template for cars and other equipment people tryin to sell.

To make them learn and abide by it is another challenge.

For the prefix part maybe the easy way out rite now would be to convert / auto correct them to tags so when you click on that particular tab example F.S only F.S items will appear .

Example of the autocorrect for topic titles :

Autocorrect Without tags

For sale. ->F.S
4Sale -> F.S
4 Sale -> F.S

Want to buy -> W.T.B
Wnt2buy -> W.T.B
Wnt to buy -> W.T.B
W2B -> W.T.B ..............

With tags

For sale. -> #F.S
4Sale -> #F.S
4 Sale -> #F.S

Want to buy -> #W.T.B
Wnt2buy -> #W.T.B
Wnt to buy -> #W.T.B
W2B -> #W.T.B ..............
