Are these done in Trinidad as I recently saw this car certified only in the dealership lot.

Russia still wary imported Japanese cars are contaminated by radiation

Published: Aug. 2, 2013 at 10:14 AM
VLADIVOSTOK, Russia, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Radiation-contaminated vehicles from Japan are still a concern in Russia, even though their numbers have fallen sharply, officials said.

More than 930 vehicles exposed to radiation from the damaged Fukushima nuclear power plant have been detected in Russia's eastern ports since an earthquake and tsunami struck Japan in 2011, RIA Novosti reported Thursday.

About 59 and 43 contaminated vehicles, respectively, were detected in the first two quarters of 2013, Russian customs officials said. That's a significant reduction from the average of 90 contaminated vehicles detected quarterly in the immediate aftermath of the disaster.

The primary concern now, officials said, is used vehicles and spare parts.

Contaminated cars are sent back to Japan.

Last year, almost 150,000 used vehicles were imported to Russia from Japan, the International Auto Trade Association said.

Get some radiation monitoring badges and fix yourself. Our company deals with a company out of the USA (Landauer Inc.) for the radiation monitoring of our staff.

Our associate company does this to all vehicles that pass through the system in Japan.... Unfortunately the backward government thinking here is a hindrance....... They don't really care.

Pal, yes all exported cars are required as mandatory to be pre-screened before being exported.... on a RORO basis.

What you do not know is that the screening does not cover parts shipped in containers nor does it cover cars shipped in containers.

And yes the government here is backward in thinking when they do not see it fit to put systems in place to deal with these things on a pro-active basis.

Like most ports around the world, the port of Port of Spain should have had already adopted technology measures that play a vital role in U.S homeland security programs. Radiation detectors must be strategically positioned throughout the facility.

Question is would they only block radiated containers leaving for U.S.A, but allow it to pass if it going to the bamboo.....

not a bad idea, but those badges are really for use primarily in the medical industry to monitor tech's exposure levels over a given time frame. best solution ideally would be to avoid radioactive residue altogether. Short term exposure to small amounts of gamma & beta wave radiation isn't necessarily harmful, but prolonged high dose exposure can damage you.

ppl really need to be careful when dealing with potential nuclear radiation exposure tho. Some isotopes take 2-5 years to reach their half life, that means they will still be emitting levels of radiation years after leaking into a vehicle. But there's just no way to know what kind of risk is present if any w/o the proper equipment & data from the source of contamination.
