A Cocorite man was yesterday jailed for three months with hard labour after he was found guilty of assaulting a 12-year-old girl.
Amos George, 28, grabbed the pre-teen by her waist, kissed her on the lips and walked out of her mother's parlour in April last year.
A report was made and PC Ian Outar from the Carenage Police Station arrested and charged George, who pleaded not guilty to the offence.
Prior to the ruling by Magistrate Cheron Raphael, court prosecutor Insp Gale Charles said men should stop the concept that "after 12 is lunch" and called on parents to take greater care of their children.

MANY men have a concept of, “after 12, it’s lunch” and such thinking must stop, a Port-of-Spain prosecutor declared yesterday as she referred to men viewing girls as being ready for sexual activity once they pass the age of 12.
Inspector Gale Charles made the statement as she spoke before Magistrate Cheron Raphael in the Third Court, where a man was found guilty of kissing a 12-year-old girl. The accused, Amos George, 28, was later sentenced to three months imprisonment with hard labour.
George of Cocorite was charged in April of 2012 with assaulting the girl. He pleaded not guilty on his initial appearance and was granted bail. The case went to trial before Raphael last week and was concluded yesterday. George did not take the witness stand after the prosecution closed its case.
The charge against George, who is known by the victim and her relatives, was that he committed the act at a parlour located in Cocorite. The prosecution’s evidence is that George held the underage girl by her waist and kissed her on the lips.
The child’s mother later filed a report to police and Constable Outer conducted inquiries and subsequently charged George with the offence. In her submission, seeking a custodial sentence for George, prosecutor Insp Charles said: “A lot of men have this concept that after (age) 12, it’s lunch. That must not happen. That thinking must stopped.”
Magistrate Raphael later ruled that George was guilty as charged and sentenced him to three months in prison. The magistrate later urged parents to properly supervise and protect their children.
