He's right.

Jovial crime went UP though. You know....when the bandit and his associates, celebrate as they count the days "earnings."

Hah, and people will actually believe him since he's their messiah.

By all means, let's give his ministry 5 billion and police officers a huge wage increase, they sure are doing a swell job and deserve it.

police is a big joke...it's nothing more than another typical public servant job where they demand the state take care of them forever

Most police didn't make it past CXC and decided hey I might as well join de police...daiz ah easy wukk

Let's not start on the defense force

The minute they hint on raising the educational standards for entry into these forces they quikc to jump up an cyak...

Statistics can be made to say anything if used correctly..what's the significance of comparing to 2008? That's like saying yuh good looking because 99% of ppl say yuh not as ugly as Brigo.

Warner is well aware that a lot of his political clout/credibility in the future, is tied to his success with the ministry he now heads.

JW should show the co-relation between serious crimes (gang murders, kidnappings) and drug interdictions since pp in office

Todays Express -

By Gyasi Gonzales

Story Created: Jan 4, 2013 at 10:56 PM ECT
(
Story Updated: Jan 5, 2013 at 4:07 PM ECT )

Of the 71 murders committed in Trinidad and Tobago by March 2012, only seven had been solved up to that time.

Pressed about the homicide detection rate, acting Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams yesterday stated the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has been concerned about the low detection rate for homicides in 2012 and "we will be working in 2013 to improve those rates".

Williams, who spoke to the Express yesterday afternoon, also said that besides increased action from the police, members of the public can contribute to the raising of this detection rate by playing their part and working alongside the police, in terms of providing tips that would lead to the apprehension of those responsible for the murders.

He assured, however, that "this year we will be calling for more cooperation from our stakeholders, as the TTPS will deliver an improved service as promised, as we are heightening our activity, including continued engagement with the public," he said.

Williams was also satisfied with respect to recent reports about a drop in serious crime activity island-wide. He said that in November 2010 there were 1,593 serious crimes recorded in Trinidad and Tobago, while in November 2011 there were 1,221 serious crimes recorded, as he admitted that the state of emergency would have contributed to that.

"But then in November 2012, we recorded 1,184 serious crimes, which means that the Police Service has outperformed even the period of November when we had the state of emergency," said Williams.

"Print that," he commanded.

CoP could say what he want, but unless it painted on the walls of a crime scene who the perp is, the police couldn't care less to resolve criminal activity.

It will forever be treated like a money making machine in this banana republic.

1% is huge when you're a pitiful disgrace of a public service.

Trini public sector workers have life too good. Consistently underperform and have abysmal approval ratings from everyone, yet demand a wage increase.

Wage increase should be dependent on performance like most private companies.

hah. Work in public sector you say. Where the pay is small and little or no room for growth and politics trumps all.

not my cup of tea.

Then hush yuh cyat. It is always easier outside looking in and painting everyone with a broad brush.

The fact is most g'ment agencies are understaffed and will remain so because the remuneration is not attractive compared to the private sector, so the few that remain for a shoddy salary just for the job security will be overworked and some pissy (not all)

While the world advances and modern policing uses the latest technology in other countries, we remain here using stop watch and calculator to catch "speeding" motorists.

Not the police fault, our legislation out dated and noone cares to fix it.

Even if it were fixed, police won't know how to use it.

JW pull a piece of retardness there.... when you say decrease and do not qualify it, you automatically assume it is a decrease from the previous period (year in this case).

in this case he is pulling from 5 years ago, what is the relevance of this comparison? trying to fool people? or to show up on the previous government....

on a related note i was watching the year in review, and saw him speak about "pnm murders".... why do we have unintelligent men like this running our country

yup my point too, i thought it was from the previous year, till i checked and see that almost every single thing went up from last year to this year except fraud and narcotics and even that was close...i jus posted this so ppl can see and judge the statistics for themselves instead of jus takin warner or anyone's word for that matter. Would love to see ZR maths in comin up with the 68.9 percent he has calculated.

The reason crime seemed to rise from 2011 to 2012 was because of teh SOE, using 2011 as a yardstick would not give a true representation of crime patterns.

Hmn... So jack the mac fools us up with statistics .. but really there are alot of serious crimes that go undetected and unreported due to the solvency rate of the police service...

I know for a fact Burglary, Woundings and Shootings, Rapes and Incest Sexual Offences, Gun Possession, Other Serious Crimes, Narcotic Related Offences are some of the categories no one talks about.. but the occurrences are ridiculous

Just cuz you stop arresting the criminals... doesn't mean crime is down eh...

If the police stopped working... crime STATISTICS would be down 100% !!

Or if the statistics stopped being released, then you go see *internet drops*
