Powell will drive for Ford M-Sport at Rally Spain 2012

Yes people it is 100% true. Trinidad's very own John 'Penti' Powell will drive for M-SPORT Team Ford at Rally de Espana on November 8-11, 2012. John received the invitation last week from them, and it was officially published this morning on http://www.fia.com (check the news releases to the right hand side of the page - or click http://www.fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/pr ... s-esp.aspx).

Many of you are probably wondering 'HOW?' and we can only assume he was on the radar after his performances at NACAM, as well as his above average record in the Caribbean. Rally de España is a mix of gravel and tarmac and of course John has done very well since 2010 at Rally Trinidad, Jamaica, Guadeloupe and Barbados. John is able to score points for M-Sport toward the manufacturer championship which is another huge honour.

This is the first time that any driver from the English speaking Caribbean has been offered a seat with a manufacturer at the World Rally Championship, albeit just for this event alone. Regardless this is a huge achievement not just for John but for the entire Caribbean region. He will be accompanied by NACAM co-driver Jamaican Michael Fennell Jr. His fellow competitors are part of the world's best in Rallying, none other than Seb Loeb, Jari-Matti Latvala, Petter Solberg, and Ott Tanak.

So stay tuned folks as we keep you informed about what could be one of the greatest motorsport achievements in our nation's history.
