Tough to call a winner this year. So many great boats and crews out there. Just wishing everyone a safe race.

btw I've heard although the horsepower currently in Paramount may not allow it. Those Mystic hulls have been proven to achieve speeds of over 200mph :faint:

Regrettably, we're not gonna be able to see the true potential of the Mystic.

The regs currently prohibit any speed faster than 130mph in that class. The Mystic is not even going to break as sweat at that speed.

I find the whole concept of limiting the speed in a race, paradoxical. Can you imagine you get disqualified in a race because you drive too fassss?!

I can appreciate the concerns for safety but 130mph when a boat can do over 200mph...come on. And then they have the small boats limited to 60mph which (if anyone has ever done that speed in a sub-25 footer) is pretty fast.

To me powerboat racing in T&T for big boats is dead. A bunch of big boats driving around (I can't say racing) is not fun. The real competition and fun is in the smaller and midsize classes.

while that maybe true, our power boat association in charge of the race and rules see it fit to kill the sport by LIMITING the speed of these wonderful machines.
What a pity they are not allowed to run to their true potential.

What's the penalty for exceeding the speed? Disqualification or just time penalties?

A 1 minute time penalty for every recorded speed above the assigned speed bracket (GPS speeds are transmitted every 15 seconds).

An outright DQ for breaking is a bit harsh but rules are rules.

So why not allow an open class for the fastest boats, agree that this will certainly stifle the growth when at the end of the race, you could have most comments about how fast the fastest did go.
And encourage others to want to break that record.
Same way the winners always want to break the record from start to Tobago.

Maybe we can lend them some D&W Rules!

^feel free, over the years ive seen Power Boats come and go, race outline changed ...all for the better. I dont see why, along with proper consultation, those suggestions can't be considered.
Maybe a general proposal is whats needed in aim this event to an international perspective! [with sporting and tourism hand in hand ofcourse]

I think it's rather stupid to limit the speeds of the "extreme" class. Why spend all that money on a more capable boat, only to have it governed on race day. For that, they might as well order a Mystic with 1 engine and save a few hundred grand  ... Those boats were built to run at much higher speeds while still being safe. This type of racing is meant to take man & machine to their limits! We all have seen in the past, that over governing/ruling motorsports has stifled the sport. I hope that's not the case for that class because those are the boats everyone is coming out to see and owner and sparing no expense to go fast!

*shameless plug*
If any of you power boat guys are looking for top quality pit crew shirts, please send me a PM.. I have 3 wives and 15 kids to support - Help ah broda out
