to put things into perspective, that's how much Trinidad would consume in 1116 days.

which is the amount the US uses in 2.4 days

Its funny when the Rider/Scott report comes out and it predicts 10 more years of estimated reserves of oil (as it have done since the 1950's) people run around like a headless chicken screaming we have no money for tomorrow.

I happy for the find but it will probably take about 2.5 yrs to fully monetize it.

hint hint

Khalid Hassanali said in the press conference that they are able to extract 10 barrels/day from a land well and 75 barrels/day from an offshore well. He said that preliminary extraction tests yielded 700 barrels/day from this latest find.

If the total estimate is correct, then 10 wells in that field would take 18.8 years to be depleted.

So, are we on another oil boom? Are the unions going to strike for an even higher salary increase from now?

When oil was king in this land we were doing close to 400,000 bbls. per day.Today the most recent estimates have us doing short of 100,000 bbls.
Petrotrin in order to run the refinery relies on imported oil primarily because our production numbers in the forseeable future ain't enough to sustain needs.
Presently,T&T major hydrocarbon is natural gas and production vs demand in serious trouble.
The facts therefore say reliance on hydrocarbons to sustain us at resonable levels of economic health may be an illusion.
We missed the boat which was provided to facilitate diversification into other productive effort and now we scrambling to paddle in a kayak in the middle of the economic ocean.
Poor NGC they seem to have contracted to sell more gas than they have coming from suppliers.Rationing is already the order of the day.

This was all just to draw attention away from the wranglings within the PP which were to be addressed today. But it might backfire, what could have been a page 8 story will now be front page.

yep our main earner is LNG, however with the rate of Shale gas exploration and technologies currently being rolled out, the US will move from being an importer of LNG to completely self reliant in the next few years, the industry knows this and many changes have already occurred to brace for the surge in cheap gas that is coming, ( shell recently cancelled a mutlibilion dollar gas to deisal plant in the Emrites due to this and reports are that the US LNG ports have seen a steady decline in the number of LNG tankers that visit, do a lil research.
Very soon the price and demand for LNG will drop drastically and extraction methods are becoming more efficient and easy to deploy, shale gas deposits have redefined the game with regards to the ideas of hydrocarbon reservoirs, and large quantities of gas are now being found in areas where no one thought to look for it (Jamaica may have one of the largest gas reserves in the Caribbean !), there reason why no one is drilling for it simple, they realise that in the near future it will be worth less, so no one wants to invest in drilling for it, the US is way ahead of the game and no one plants to invest and stand to loose out when the price drops.
Such for a country whose economy relies so heavily on Gas we are in for a bumpy ride, very soon, i suspect in the next 5 years, save your money and have and exit strategy, very soon all the social programs being offered by our state will not be viable and will have to be retracted, my hope is that we will see our way through this coming storm but it will be a long while before it over and its only going to get worst, fast.
