unfortunately CRT displays don't come in very large sizes, if they do it would weigh a ton and consume huge amounts of electricity to run.crossdrilled wrote:CRT's last longer, and have better quality display. Don't say I did not warn you guys.

No eh, The THX recommended viewing distance for a 58" HD TV is only 6 feet away. A 27" sitting distance is about 2.5 feet way, which is the distance you sit from a monitor.crossdrilled wrote:Duane 3NE 2NR wrote:unfortunately CRT displays don't come in very large sizes
That is a good thing. I am sure 90% of the people who buy the biggest TV they can afford don't know a thing about optimized viewing angles and have a TV that is too big for how close they sit to it. 27" is plenty for most applications.
I disagree, standard definition is 4:3 (what you call square), HDTV is 16:9, cinema movie standard is 1.85:1 and some cinema wide at 2.40:1. When representing these wider formats on a screen with a narrower aspect ratio, the bluray disc or TV will show it in letterbox format with black bands at the top and bottom, never cropping out the shot the director meant the audience to see.crossdrilled wrote:The most obvious problem with CRT's which nobody even bings up in conversation (I guess because few people bother to research it) is that many of the larger ones are too square for the new format of modern movies, which are more rectangular. Not a big deal though, as directors never let critical elements go outside the middle square of the frame.
