It's not a highway. It's a main road

Shoulder pain at Mosquito Creek: Rohan responds

https://trinidadexpress.com/news/local/ ... ium=social

Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan has responded to online critics regarding the partial opening of the Mosquito Creek on Wednesday.

The newly elevated stretch of road at Mosquito Creek got the ire of the public, who had one burning question for the minister, why is there no shoulder on the newly opened Mosquito Creek segment?

Sinanan said, “It is not the actual highway. The reason we had to move to the embankment is so that we can now raise the other side of the road. This is going to be a two-lane highway all the way down, with shoulders, lights - everything just like all the other areas. Once they raise it and they have the entire area levelled, then they repave it and paint the line.”

At the partial opening of the creek on Wednesday, Sinanan said it would have cost the country $280 million for the total package.

The partial opening involved package five, which is one of 12 packages awarded earlier this year, which will complete the entire highway from San Fernando to Point Fortin.

In a telephone interview with the Express on Friday, Sinanan said, “As I said before, this is a partial opening. We removed the traffic from the lower part so we could raise it. Yes, people are saying that there is no shoulder, but once it is completed, it would have two lanes on either side with shoulders, lights and everything. It is an on-going project.”

According to Sinanan, the opening of the elevated roadway segment is expected to alleviate the issue of recurrent traffic in that area.

“Hopefully we should complete the entire package by the third quarter of next year”, he said.

What I think going to go on is, when they raise the original section, in between that and the nes stretch will also be filled in. so the left most lane would become the shoulder at that time.

I suppose.

So they are going to move the steel barriers to create the shoulder when the other lane is done?

Its quite normal to have these diversions in those projects that would not be in the specification of the finished product, it was done at Grand Bazzar, being done at Curepe however, whats abonormal for me is the ribbon cutting and drone footage for a temporary diversion..

I'm thinking, the center, right side barrier will be moved over one lane, and the fast lane placed there
There would not be much of a gap between the opposing sides

Traffic nightmare at Mosquito Creek

Image

A truck stalled along South trunk Road on Mosquito Creek Tuesday morning, leaving hundreds of motorists and commuters in a traffic gridlock.

Motorists could not escape the traffic as the section of highway where the incident happened had no shoulder.

Traffic heading north from Fyzabad, Oropouche and Siparia and south from San Fernando, Gulf View, La Romaine backed up for miles.

The truck shut down on the narrow stretch which was opened in October as part the Solomon Hochoy Highway Extension to Point Fortin.

Since the opening of the elevated roadway, road users have complained about the narrowness of the two lanes, the closeness of the crash rails and the absence of emergency shoulders.

Because of these factors, traffic is limited to the speed of 30 km an hour along that stretch and no overtaking is allowed.

One commuter told the Newsday she was on her way to Port of Spain for a particular time but failed to meet her deadline. She was caught in traffic from South Oropouche around 9am, and around 10.10 am she was yet to reach the creek.

Anyone knows who doing the job of clearing or cleaning the vegetation or whatever they doing between the lanes?

Idiots block off an entire lane of the whole highway to do a small portion and half the time nobody there and nothing doing?

The time they take to line out cones and take back up cones could have been spent working. Why they inconveniencing people for? Today they block off the whole thing and you forced unto the shoulder.

Was tempted to start licking down cones or moving a few to find the owner and ask wdmc allyuh really doing?

Passing there a few weeks now and always seeing the cones since then, but only one (1) day I ever see work being done.
I feel the ones on the north bound had never been moved for about 2 weeks.

They are put down every morning and removed every evening. Different days, they are laid out differently. Today I notice they took the whole lane and the merging lane. So you have to drive on the shoulder.

I pass there the other day and see all gone.

But how olor function so long with that failure of a interchange/roundabout by south oropouche or whatever that area is?
What exactly is that thing called? It is not a roundabout.
Is there any major road in Trinidad that is not designed like chit?

So they want people cross the highway to get to the bus stop?
Why must the stop be on the right lane?

That's what i heard when they started the job but that doesn't make sense to me, for the same reasons u pointed out.

I see they finish the bridge by Suchit Tr. excellent , otherwise it would have deteriorated. The highway comes to an abrupt end so the continuation was really needed . Good job . My only concern is the one house in the way on the southern side of Suchit Tr, with all the old Benz in the yard . Remember that family is the main antagonist in the whole Highway Reroute show .
