Household Ants insecticide?

Postby Chill_Factor » November 17th, 2011, 9:52 pm

Anyone have any recommendations on a good insecticide to get rid of them household ants that like to raid your food (dunno the name of the species). I fed up see them passing through my room but they kinda few and far apart, so having some trouble finding the source.

sprinkle sevin ( spell check please) powder in the corners or the room and your cupboards, also your kitchen this will do the job, its cheap, and you can get it at any agro shop, a good idea also while you are at the agro shop is to ask them for something to help if you think the ants are coming into your house from the yard. we recently bought some stuff, don't know the name but there are many options available fairly cheaply that spray at around the yard and the perimeter of house and the ants keep away.

A old fasion method is soaking neem leaves over night and sprinkling the water around the house it is a natural insecticide and keeps many bugs away.

I spoke to a few growers that have been using neem oil in their “pest control” program and they are delighted with it. Not just from the safety aspect… but the control. They have found the neem oil to be effective as a repellant – insecticide – miticide and fungicide. It also functions as an antifeedant which discourages insects feeding patterns.

Try a chemical called Triton (yea like the Mitsubishi). You can find it in agri stores. Mix with water in a spray can and spray it. Works excellent. Keeps away cockroaches as well. It is supposed to be non toxic and it is odorless.

Sevin's Powder contains Borax, which dessicates the ants.

If you're doing it outside the house, keep reapplying as we are in the rainy season.

sevin is also quite toxic

terro works good,

if they taking sugar, coca cola
just mix a little boric acid powder in a capful of coke
dont mix strong,
they have to live long enough to carry it back to the nest and feed the ants there

If you don't know where they are coming from, best is to get them to come to you. Use some bait. Put a couple droops for this anywhere in their walk path and watch them gather up to eat and disappear. You will have to keep feeding them and eventually they will all disappear. Remember, ants work round the clock so it could take a while to eradicate them all, especially if they have nests all over the place. This stuff works best.

You will need to ask the ants how they do it, but this stuff works. I have used it successfully.

I used to have a really bad "sweet ants" problem in my room, I got some of the gel ones, put it in a bottle cap and they swarmed that stuff, ants free from since then.

you sure you don't mean malathion?

Taking in toxic smells, young children into consideration Terro is the best bet as long as it it properly concealed.

Where can I get this Terro up east? I called Caribbean Chemicals and they no longer carry it.
I also called Tracmac about a chemical called DuPont Advion Gel, which they bring in for the Rentokill guys, but they couldn't say where sells it retail.

Reason being, I parked up really close to a palm tree a few weeks ago and the leaves were touching the car, then over the last few weeks, I'm finding small patches of the "mad ants" under carpets and in the trunk.

Insect spray is fine for now, but I want them all dead without tearing the car apart, so bait seems to be the answer.

Terro or Advion. Please point me to where I can get these.

There is a Chinese Grocery in Cunupia, just past Dass Trace (Southern Main Road) selling the Terro.
