So WI lost the match and the series yesterday. Pollard blames the pitches. While I will admit our pitches have generally been toose years now across the region both teams have to bat or bowl on it!! Pollard using a convenient scapegoat for a team that clearly is inferior to most of the rest of the cricketing world.
West Indies captain Kieron Pollard took a fierce swipe at the pitches produced for the one-day series against Australia in Barbados, calling them "absolutely ridiculous."
While acknowledging that his team did not bat well in making 152 all out in the decider - which followed their 123 all out in the first match - he said that the fact that batting was difficult for both sides was a sign that the surfaces weren't good enough.

Seems WI's saviour would be that SL is also playing horribly. WI sit 6th in the table having played more matches than NZ, SA and Afghanistan. Remember its the Top 7+India who automatically qualify for the next WC and the last two spots are from a qualifying tournament.

WI batsmen seem to lack the patience to bat on such testing pitches, too many aerial shots when bogged down, trying to hit out in frustration when they should be looking for singles and rotating strike. SMH

Yip...what Pollard actually means by bad poor pitches is that WI need true pitches where they can trust the bounce, have limited footwork and hit through the line.

Even our big bad Shai Hope...the man with the 50+ average. I saw on a cricket forum someone break down his performances -
He has never played any ODIs in Australia or South Africa and the 3 matches he played in NZ he averages 8.
His average is primarily built around averaging 91 against Afghanistan and 95 against Bangladesh, 64 against SL and Zimbabwe, 53 against India
Thereafter its a big drop off to 41 Ireland and 40 Australia, then 30 vs Pakistan and less vs the rest.

In ODIs played against the top teams with the exception of India (their pitches are usually run fests and grounds small [he averages 100 in India]) he isn't as good as his 50+ average suggests.

Holder playing instead of cottrell. I wonder if WI know by now this is a spin wicket. Wonder if pollard would try to bowl off spin again ... lol

Probably might not matter.
Forecast is for continued rain and the cutoff time to get a 5 over match in is 1.16pm.

Game abandoned. They need to stop playing cricket in Barbados around this time of the year.

IPL has robbed the Caribbean of its Cricket season.

Where we previously had inbound tours in Mar to June we now have to leave end March and all of April and empty.

From initially 5 matches, then reduced to 4 and now to 3. Any chance this is reduced further to 2?

The IPL footprint in the CPL has expanded further with the owners of the Rajasthan Royals buying a majority stake in the Barbados Tridents, which will now be known as the Barbados Royals. The Royals Sports Group are the third IPL franchise to own a team in the CPL after Red Chillies Entertainment, owners of the Kolkata Knight Riders, bought the Trinbago Knight Riders in 2015, and KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited, the consortium that owns the Punjab Kings, bought the St Lucia Zouks last year.

In all the hubris of the Olympics England and India started a Test today. England went from 138-3 to 183 all out and India 21 for no loss in reply. Set up to bat big and bat once!!!

India all our for 278 - a lead of 95.
Interestingly poised with England's fickle batting line up.
Vaughan didn't mince words saying Sibley and Lawrence are out of their depth at this level yesterday.

India 100-0. Rain basically took the first session.
Rahul on a pained 16 from 90 balls; Sharma on 75 from 111 balls.

Dizzy, I am curious, removing rahul's ton, why did you say that he was on a "pained 16" ?

I wont say pained, early morning conditions favoured bowlers so he was more cautious than usual. Worked in his favour...Pujara need to get his act together or else this will be his last tour. Kohli is also due for a big one
