That's not entirely correct. Just as the salaries vary from company to company, so does the minimum requirements/qualifications.
Many companies require a degree, but others accept either a Certificate, Diploma, HND, Associate degree, Specialist Certification, and/or in many cases, a combination of experience AND training.

Exactly, a degree with no experience=squat unless you getting a link up or the only person in a specific field with such degree

Actually, its called NEBOSH, National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (UK). There are two Levels; Certificate and Diploma.
It does have weight, especially with the European companies, but the National Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety is equivalent to an Associate degree, not a BSc. So it still depends on the company's HR requirements.
At the end of the day, nothing beats a BSc. Some ppl do the MSc, but thus far, in most cases it's an over-qual., unless you want to teach.
