agreed, but why cant the greenhouse folks with their controlled environment grow those varieties ?

other countries grow many varieties of tomatoes and other crops
whilst we tend to only produce the handful of mass market high yield ones that the gmo companies push.

granted it’s not easy to put out the capital and risk loss due to pests etc

that makes absolutely no sense on a large scale.

only place you might find that is by looking for some organic farmer in santa cruz green market or plant your own

tomatoes is a incredibly difficult and expensive crop to bring to harvest.

just trying to transport "properly" ripened tomatoes cant realistically be done. you hadda pack it on a single layer of foam?

Growing heirloom tomatoes is really a niche market. No commercial farmer will commit his resources for an almost non-existent market. Too much to lose.

You may have a point. Vine ripened tomatoes are selling for about US$1.25/lb wholesale in California right now.

Did this last year outside in the yard.Sun ripened ones taste really nice.Unfortunately, the pooches enjoyed it more than me.After they ate the tomatoes, the young pommecytheres on the tree got eaten as well.Fyi, some tomatoes grow by cuttings.,Not sure about all.

Is there anything that I can use to control grass between pumpkin? That won't harm the pumpkin vines?

Select or Icasso for straight leaf weeds. I believe Icasso is cheaper.

I take the hose and spray the soursop fruit with water when it is small. t seems to have worked so far but one or two, high up, still get attacked.

I don't use chemicals at all.

Try to avoid chemicals myself, considered using a bag but wanted to know what was normally done. How often do you spray with water?
Have about eight in the tree, the two large ones already attacked by fruit flies and turning black where the eggs were laid.

I spray the entire fruit with water every other day for about a week. But I monitor every day to see if the flies have laid any eggs.

As the fruit grows, I may spray occasionally.

Got some small cocoa trees to plant in an estate. There are relatively short (1-2 ft) so awaiting them to get fairly taller before planting them. The thing is I noticed the leaves turning brown on some and what seems to be eaten leaves on others.

What can be done to alleviate this situation as I noticed a few have already succumbed to whatever this is.

Sorry for the late reply. I wanted a specific variety so got that pod and harvested the seeds which I set accordingly. Got about 100 plants at the moment.

So I'm thinking about planting a lot of land next door to me. My idea is to do about 10 "banks" 10 ft long by 2ft wide for small seasonings and herbs. I will do regular banks for bigger crops which require more space in between.

My major hurdle is time to irrigate daily as I have a full time job, so I want to run some pvc pipes on the banks with holes drilled into them on either side which would water the crops daily, maybe twice, who knows. Now to achieve this I would need a pump. A cost effective bare pump I saw in the hardware was a Leo 1/2hp. It has a 1"or 1.25" bore(not too sure) which would be reduced to 3/4" and then further reduced to 1/2" on the bed. This pump would be controlled by an electrical timer accordingly.

My concern is would this 1/2 hp pump be sufficient to irrigate the crops. Mind you I don't need the effect of the irrigation hoses where the water sprays up in the air a bit.

What are your thoughts, concerns, opinions.
Thanks in advance

I would consider a drip irrigation system.

Hello I want to level out my yard with some topsoil so I can start to establish some lawn. Will need about 35yards, does anyone have a link?

Might be more cost effective to go with backfill for the majority of the filling in, and then a layer of top soil on top that after it settles

The yard was backfilled already issuing sand fill, but as it settled the yard isn’t leveled. The yard is about 3800sqft and looking at 3inches top soil.
