Postby MonsterPower » June 24th, 2011, 4:09 pm

ok so i have a satellite pro s300 and it says cmos battery is dead or checksum is inconsistant..

thing is before the warenty was up i sent it to toshiba and they said they replaced the battery which worked fine until the problem popped up a few months after ...then they wanted to charge us$400 to fix i said firetruck dem and i used that $$$ and bought a dell netbook .

My understanding with these batteries is that once you match some code on them you can use the normal ones that you can buy at a store or online.

Anyone know who is the authorised toshiba dealer for trinidad?

I need help locating a replacement motherboard for a satallite pro s300 or a used one to figure out if the one i have here is gone for good .. the link posted above gave me the alternative models as Satellite Pro S300, TECRA A10/S10/P10.

i'd appreciate any help .. couple of cold ones involved

Check the CMOS connector where the battery attaches to the board. I've seen it happen to a Acer and the BIOS gets screwed.
If you can ensure the battery is properly attached to the board and the BIOS changes are persistent, you can try flashing the BIOS to a new version.
Be careful it does not get FUBAR'ed tho.

Vista anything is fail. Windows 7 or you're an @sshole.
If you really on a budget, get yourself a copy of XP in the meantime.

Once you install Service Pack 1 for Vista then everything starts to run smoothly. Used it for a few years then migrated to Windows 7 because of DX 11.

A failed BIOS update can also screw stuff up beyond repair.

Can you identify which hardware device is affected/nonfunctional?
If it's just the system date, you can live with it.

the bios update was sucessful so i doubt the bios is screwed

try booting from a linux live cd to see if the hardware is operational.
An OS reinstall might be the order of the day.
