THE wife of a Government official was on Monday morning issued a ticket for driving a vehicle with unauthorised lights along the Beetham Highway.
After being given the ticket, however, the woman told the officers she would ensure they all lose their jobs by the authority vested in her husband.
Police said at around 1.40 a.m., they were on traffic duty along the highway when they had cause to stop a black sport utility vehicle (SUV) travelling east, which was being driven by the woman.
Upon asking her to provide her driver's permit and certificate of insurance, the officers said the woman became enraged, telling the officers to look for the documents themselves.
The woman was then ordered to pull to the side of the road where she eventually presented the documents.
However, after being given the $750 ticket, the officers said the woman exclaimed: "My husband is a member of Parliament for (constituency called), and I will have all of your jobs. You waving to all of your friends and letting them pass but you stopped me. I would make sure my husband never let you get promoted."
The officers said the woman also made it clear she would not be paying the ticket and would be using her husband's portfolio to have it "brushed under the carpet".
She has 14 days in which to pay the ticket. In default, she would be required to appear before a Port of Spain magistrate to contest it.
Calls to the woman's home phone and to her husband's cellphone went unanswered yesterday.
MP’s wife gets ticket

DR DIANNE Douglas, wife of Lopinot/Bon Air West MP Dr Lincoln Douglas was among 44 persons issued tickets for road traffic violations during a special police exercise over the holiday weekend. Douglas reportedly received a $750 ticket for having unauthorised lights on her Toyota Prado SUV.
The ticket was issued by Corporal Edwards of the Traffic and Highway Patrol Unit, as he participated in the special exercise which began at about 11 pm on Easter Sunday.
Spearheaded by Sgt Morris, the exercise took place along the eastbound lane of the Beetham Highway in the vicinity of the Central Market and concluded at about 3 am on April 25.
Approximately 40 tickets were issued for a variety of offences including the use of unauthorised lights on a vehicle, failure to wear a seatbelt and driving without insurance. Four persons were also ordered to appear before the court for driving with an expired permit.
Questioned yesterday, officers said they were not aware of who Douglas was until she was stopped in the exercise and identified herself as the wife of the Minister of State in the Ministry of the People and Social Development.
Officers said they were only doing their job when they issued Mrs Douglas the ticket.
Efforts to contact both Mr and Mrs Douglas for comment yesterday proved futile. Dr Lincoln Douglas entered Parliament in 2010 as the elected Member for Lopinot/Bon Air West, following the General Election for the 10th Republican Parliament in May 2010.
Dr Dianne Douglas is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Yale University School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry; an Affiliate of UWI’s Institute for Gender and Development Studies; a lecturer in the Masters in Clinical Psychology programme of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at UWI; a regional consultant for UNIFEM, UNDP and UNAIDS and a Past President of the TT Association of Psychologists (TTAP).

SINCE WHEN YOU BEING MARRIED to a MP excuses you from being charged for comitting an offense or having a vehicle that does not meet with the legal requirements?
Officers said they were only doing their job when they issued Mrs Douglas the ticket.
