(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - More than three million people have rejoiced at the sight of her taking a long walk into a shallow mall pool in Pennsylvania but some say that woman may have dragged easily-amused internet watchers into a fountain-full of lies.

Just hours after "fountain lady" Cathy Cruz Marrero appeared alongside her lawyer on national TV yesterday morning, she was in court facing felony theft charges.

Turns out Marreo was charged in 2009 with stealing a co-worker's credit and making thousands of dollars worth of purchases at stores like Target and Zales.

Now many are wondering if Marrero may have staged her star-making dive into that mall fountain.

Marrero says a lawsuit is in the offing but has yet to comment on the latest allegations of a hoax.

Marrero maintains she is hardly soaking in enjoyment over her 15 minutes of fame. She claims she was first victimized by the security guards who laughed at her, and later humiliated when the fall footage went viral.

The security guard who posted the video has been fired.
