400 T&T files in WikiLeaks expose

http://www.trinidadexpress.com/news/400_T_T_files_in_WikiLeaks_expose-111092824.html

More than 400 documents on Trinidad and Tobago—some considered secret or classified— are included in the embarrassing publication of United States' diplomatic cables by online whistle-blower site WikiLeaks.

The release of the documents, which details correspondence between the US State Department and its embassies, consulates and diplomatic missions across the world, has been denounced by US politicians concerned about the foreign affairs' implications.
The source of the leak is alleged to be a US soldier in custody, and US government lawyers are also studying whether it is possible to prosecute WikiLeaks founder Julian Aasange.

The US Embassy in Port of Spain issued a statement yesterday condemning "in the strongest terms, the deliberate and unauthorised disclosure of classified materials by individuals and organisations which puts lives at risk and jeopardises our national security".

WikiLeaks has disclosed the existence of 414 documents related to Trinidad and Tobago, with 82 described as confidential, 307 as unclassified and two as secret.
The details of the cables have not been disclosed, but the website intends disclosing the information over the course of serval months.

Several other Caribbean countries, including Jamaica, St Lucia, Guyana and Dominica, have also been named.
Acting Public Affairs Officer Jeff Mazur, at the US Embassy in Port of Spain, stated, "While we cannot speak to the authenticity of any documents provided to the press, we can speak to the diplomatic community's practice of cable writing.

"One of the basic functions of diplomats is to report candidly on developments in the societies in which they serve. Cables reflect the internal day-to-day analysis and candid assessments that feed the governments' foreign relations' deliberations.
"These cables are often preliminary and incomplete expressions of foreign policy, and they should not be seen as having standing on their own or as representing US policy."
Mazur added, "We believe our friends and allies understand the need for frank internal discussions and share our view that the release of these documents is reprehensible."

Some of the information has caused diplomatic tension between the US and allies, with US President Barack Obama saying the documents were an unauthorised disclosure of classified information that compromised national security.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reportedly contacted the leaders of several nations, doing damage control over the embarrassing revelations made in some of the cables.
WikiLeaks began releasing the documents on Sunday, in what it describes as the largest set of confidential documents ever to be released into the public domain, giving people "around the world an unprecedented insight into US government foreign activities".

In other news, The US gov't has shut down Wikileaks, and is trying everything possible to take it down. They have banned it on twitter, and are pressuring all governments to ban access to the site. Wikileaks founder is protected by the Freedom of Speech Act, but He has become Interpol's Most wanted man, for a fabricated sex charge.

http://www.wikileaks.nl/cablegate.html

Everyday alot of bachannal is going down, America is blatantly flaunting its power and doing everything it can to shut down wikileaks. Each time the site goes up, it is pulled down again.

WikiLeaks Ready to Release Giant 'Insurance' File if Shut Down

Julian Assange, the WikiLeaks founder, has circulated across the internet an encrypted “poison pill” cache of uncensored documents suspected to include files on BP and Guantanamo Bay.

One of the files identified this weekend by The Sunday Times — called the “insurance” file — has been downloaded from the WikiLeaks website by tens of thousands of supporters, from America to Australia.
Assange warns that any government that tries to curtail his activities risks triggering a new deluge of state and commercial secrets.
The military papers on Guantanamo Bay, yet to be published, have been supplied by Bradley Manning, Assange’s primary source until his arrest in May. Other documents that Assange is confirmed to possess include an aerial video of a U.S. airstrike in Afghanistan that killed civilians, BP files and Bank of America documents.
One of the key files available for download — named insurance.aes256 — appears to be encrypted with a 256-digit key. Experts said last week it was virtually unbreakable.

The U.S. Department of Defense says it is aware of the WikiLeaks insurance file, but has been unable to establish its contents. It has been available for download since July.
Assange has warned he can divulge the classified documents in the insurance file and similar backups if he is detained or the WikiLeaks website is permanently removed from the internet. He has suggested the contents are unredacted, posing a possible security risk for coalition partners around the world.
Assange warned: “We have over a long period of time distributed encrypted backups of material we have yet to release. All we have to do is release the password to that material, and it is instantly available.”
The “doomsday files” are part of a contingency plan drawn up by Assange and his supporters as they face a legal threat. He is wanted in Sweden over sexual assault allegations, and the US administration is reviewing the possibility of legal action after the release of 250,000 diplomatic cables.

Ben Laurie, a London-based computer security expert who has advised WikiLeaks, said: “Julian’s a smart guy and this is an interesting tactic. He will hope it deters anyone from acting against him.”
Nigel Smart, professor of cryptology at the U.K.'s Bristol University, said even powerful military computers would be unable to crack the encryption. He said: “This isn’t something that can be broken with a modern computer. You need the key to open it.”
The file is 1.4 gigabytes in size, which would be big enough for a compressed version of all the files released this year and additional data.

Assange said last year that he had been leaked a computer hard drive from an executive at Bank of America and warned this month he was planning a major release on a large American bank. He also claims to have confidential files on BP and other energy companies. Tens of millions of personal computers were hijacked last week in an act of sabotage that crippled the WikiLeaks website. WikiLeaks revealed that a “denial of service” attack that temporarily shut down the website used a network of “zombie” computers, which were infiltrated by the hackers.
WikiLeaks is now battling for its survival. Amazon, which hosted the website, refused further access to its servers last week. A site that provided WikiLeaks with its domain name, EveryDNS.net, also cut off its service because it said it was being inundated with sabotage attacks.
Some of the contingency plans were revealed when the site re-emerged on Friday with a Swiss address, WikiLeaks.ch. The new name was provided by the Swiss Pirate party, which champions internet freedom. Assange has also set up contingency servers in Sweden.

Someone post the files.

I want to see what Obama wanted from Trinidad and Tobago in exchange for his visit here. If we are harboring terrorists from Guantanamo Bay, i expect Obamas head on a stick.

i doubt we'll see anything important on the leaked files wrt to the US embassy here in Trinidad. mebbe lots of stuff to do with Obama's visit.

it'll prolly clear up once and for all if they work on a quota basis tho, and that visa applications is a giant moneymaking scheme.

On the contrary I think we'll see alot of activity with regards to politician and their drug connections. Also the issue of party funding. As the UNC is a well known receiver of these laundered funds.

Issues regarding Calder Hart and Manning will also be brought up. The Embassy works in close connection with the CIA. Have no fear it won't be as boring as you think.

Can't Wait

Interesting stuff

E.O. 12958: DECL: 03/31/2017
TAGS: PREL MASS YM
SUBJECT: (S) UNMANNED USG AIRCRAFT WASHES ASHORE, OFFICIAL
MEDIA REPORTS DOWNED IRANIAN "SPY PLANE"

REF: STATE 32641

Classified By: CDA NABEEL KHOURY, FOR REASONS 1.4 (B) AND (D).

¶1. (S) On March 27, Yemeni military officers discovered an
unmanned USG reconnaissance aircraft (Scan Eagle) that had
washed ashore on the Arabian Sea coast in the province of
Hadramaut. The President's Office immediately protested the
incident to CDA and requested an explanation. Initially
unaware of any USG operations in the area, Post learned after
further inquiry that the reconnaissance aircraft belonged to
the U.S.S. Ashland, which had been patrolling as part of
CTF-150, 60 nautical miles off the Yemeni coast. The
aircraft had crashed in international waters on March 17 and
had not been recovered.

¶2. (S) On March 28, CDA spoke with President Saleh (who was
attending the Arab League summit in Riyadh) via telephone and
confirmed that the aircraft belonged to the U.S. Navy. He
assured Saleh that the plane crashed performing routine
reconnaissance near the ship and had not been operating in
Yemeni territory. CDA also met separately with Interior
Minister Rashad Alimi and Ammar Saleh, Deputy Director of the
National Security Bureau, and presented both with general
information on the aircraft.

¶3. (S) President Saleh expressed doubt as to the plane's
actual mission, but promised CDA that the ROYG would not
"turn this into an international incident" and would instruct
government officials not to comment. On March 29, official
and pro-government media sources reported that the Yemeni
military had shot down an Iranian "spy plane" off the coast
of Hadramaut, after communicating with "multinational forces"
in the region. Independent daily Al-Ayam (largest
circulating independent newspaper), quoted an unnamed Yemeni
military official as confirming that the plane belonged to
the American government, but would not comment on whether the
plane was shot down or discovered after crashing.

¶4. (S) Comment: President Saleh clearly believes the
unmanned aircraft had been performing reconnaissance in
Yemeni territory when it crashed. He could have taken the
opportunity to score political points by appearing tough in
public against the United States, but chose instead to blame
Iran. No doubt focused on the unrest in Saada and our
support for the transfer of excess armored personnel carriers
from neighboring countries (reftel), Saleh decided he would
benefit more from painting Iran as the bad guy in this case.
End Comment.

I would say. To sum it up in one word... "DIVERSIFIED". The U.S. is losing it's grip year by year, and the local market will seek other emerging markets more and more to do trade with and for investment purposes. As if the lack of capital and credit wasn't bad enough, now you have their biggest asset-military-being attacked(by a seemingly unstoppable force) ...it's only a matter of time before they go the way of the British empire of the 19th century.

We're witnessing the sunset era of an empire and if local firms-as well as gov't doesn't start looking to other international markets Brasil, Russia, India and China SERIOUSLY, we may be missing out on ideal opportunities for growth.

Not sure if that answers the entire question, but I'm sure it attacks the question partially.
