Police officers conducted the raids on the San Juan offices of Hafeez Karamath Construction Ltd (HKL), as well as Karamath's Palm Road, Valsayn, mansion. The raids were part of their continuing investigation into former UDeCOTT executive chairman Calder Hart and cost overruns in relation to the unfinished Brian Lara stadium in Toruba.

However, they also stumbled upon a cache of arms, ammunition and drugs during the exercise. Six people, including two relatives of the deceased, were arrested and remained in police custody up to last night in connection with that find.

The final tally from the weapons seizure was 18 guns, a large amount of ammunition, marijuana and mushrooms and drug paraphernalia. There were two AK 47s, two rifles, including one with a telescopic scope, two crudely made machine pistols and 12 pistols which use 9 mm bullets.
