Its coming > US Double Dip Recession ?

Postby Chemical » July 2nd, 2010, 7:04 am

Well all indicatiors are pointing in that direction as 100K plus jobs were lost in the US last month etc. Interest rates are at almost 0% & consumer spending accounts for approx 70% of GDP in the United States.

If the Federal Reserve steps in to bail out again what will happen to its Assets in its B/Sheet. Will it be sufficient or will it be wiped out :?:

T'dad is heading in that direction as i've stated in previous threads & the impact of the US on T&T's economy. Just look @ today's Guardian & Express to see how many cars, houses/ land are for sale by Mortgage companies. Yet alone the # of requests to contact & financial institutions looking for people.

T&T's economy is not strong & we are already in deficit financing. Our recurrent expenditure is way too high.

Fiancial & non-financial Guru's lets discuss.

Land prices I've noticed is taking a tumble. In today's Express I saw Hevron Heights in Champs Fleurs dropped from $100 to $75 psf  in just about 4 months. Today's express also advertised The Crossings land selling @ $66psf & however when I called HCL they told me hurry up as 4 plots were left. That was in Nov 09 :? Most of the plots are available for sale.

I know F/used dealers struggling to sell their cars months now & the prices have come down a bit. The D/governor is indicating little or no growth for the rest of the yr.

P/Smart keep raising their prices & now grocery items going up.

it's highly possible that we heading for another recession soon.

Revenue from the oil sector is declining, the govt has promised to keep the social programmes of the last administration and has agreed not to levy any new taxes on the population.

to develop any economic sectors outside of energy is going to take massive outlays of cash.

Added to the fact that the new administration has inherited several contracted initiatives for which some serious financial resources have to be committed (like the $700M contract with wasa and the Isreali company), and several mega construction projects are incomplete, to leave them like that would mean no ROI on monies already spent.

to make matters worse, most unions are now pro people's partnership - they ARE going to put pressure on govt and private sector to improve working conditions and salaries, which could start an inflationary cost/price spiral...

hard times ahead...

I submitted a few weeks ago my dissertation:"Corruption:It's persistence, causes & its implicated consequences" for my Phd. Perhaps I should send a copy to the 2 political parties in this country as TnT just can't stop the Spending Locomotive PNM launched on 1st gear :|

Yes, the recession definitely has a sting in the tail. We've already been forwarned here in work that we need to begin scaling back production due to steeply declining US demand. This is doubly hard, as this lean period will also take us right to the start of the US winter period, where commodity demand always tends to dip anyway.

By chance is your name Keith Rowley Sir ? Reason i ask is i notice anything relating to the new UNC Government you are full of negative criticism........crime, revenue, expenditure etc etc.........what the PNM mismanaged in the last 5-8 years will take any new government much more than 2-3 years to repair...............or are u too blind and i'gnant to see this ?????

Even God himself frowns when he sees the mess the PNM made.................

plenty people still have cash in hand though and nobody taking bank loans
Republic taking a max of 200k per deposit 3 times/week for their money market account

it doesn't look like people losing houses to banks like in the early 80s

^^See my post was written almost 1 year now. China is now going to be the super power. If T&T does not cut some of these subsidies its going to get out of hand. The gas sub is approx 4B.....you know how many houses that can build in this country & generate employment.

Oil traded yesterday @ $78/bbls & heading downwards.

Real Estate has been devalued over the last few years but owners are still calling the prices they were a few years ago.....Recently I did a valuation on some land and it was half the value the person was asking for it......and i thought the calling price was good until i saw the valuation :|

The last sort of exploration done in Trinidad was IBIS DEEP in 2006.

With no new reserves found and consumption of gas daily, where was income going to come in??

With both BP and BG on turn arounds, Process Plants on the estate have been forced to go into maintenance shut downs because PPGPL cannot supply the demand.
Petrotrin's FCCU unit is down for upgrade so gasoline is being imported to meet the demands since April until the plant is back up and running.....

People don't realise it but these are some of the best opportunities that have ever existed to become fabulously wealthy.
Mark my words, 10 years or thereabouts from now there will be people saying when the world was panicking I was buying stocks/real estate and that is how I made my first million/billion.

During the last recession, we apparently "survived" well according to local politicians.
There were still the luxuries of Carnival, fetes and luxury SUVs on the road.
How many local jobs were lost?

How would this one be any different?
Did anyone do any kind of analysis into the last one to ensure we "survive" better in this one?
