IN broad daylight at one of the busiest roadways along the East-West Corridor, Jason Singh was fatally shot yesterday.
Singh, 33, was in the driver’s seat of his silver Honda Civic when he was shot around 12 noon.
His car was outside the Jammers Bar along the Eastern Main Road, El Dorado facing east.
Police reports stated that Singh was waiting for a friend who ran inside the bar to buy beer.
Singh was in his car when another vehicle pulled alongside and one of the occupants opened fire.
The car with the shooter inside sped off, police said.
Singh tried to drive away but lost control of the car and slammed into a wall at the Midland Hardware.
Eyewitnesses said Singh attempted to run from the crashed car and fell on the main road, bleeding.
’We did not know he was shot, we thought it was just an ordinary car crash,’ a witness who requested anonymity said.
’But when we saw the bullet holes in the car we realised it was more than that,’ the witness said.
There were two bullet holes in the back passenger window of Singh’s car.
Singh was shot three times, on his right arm, chest and back, investigators said.
People rushed to Singh’s aid and an ambulance was called.
Singh was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC).
He died around 2.30 p.m., police said.
Singh from Monte Grande in Tunapuna is said to have been involved in the illegal drug trade, according to investigators.
Police cordoned off a block of the Eastern Main Road while Singh’s car remained crashed into the hardware wall blocking traffic along the west-bound lane.
Business places in the area immediately closed their doors following the incident.
Investigations are continuing.
