our phones are intranet based where the employee logs in on a morning and has access to the facility whilst "checked-in" on the premises. Once he leaves no one can use his phone on his desk without entering a pin. The system is able to generate the amount of internal/external calls made, the amount of time spent on each call, the numbers called and is able to pull up history records on how frequent certain numbers are called. Sadly the system does not have parameters set so the employee just calls whosoever he feels BUT the report would show everything and the non work related stuff will be deducted from his pay

Just yesterday in monday morning meeting for security/marketing/monitoring purposes the calls are gonna be recorded and stored remotely.....so no more sex talk. When we went on the supplier's website just yesterday afternoon they we saw a feature where the system is able to detect key words and will red-flag them immediately for an end-of day report so words like, 'fired', 'resigned', terrorist', bomb, 'sex', 'fcuk' can be detected. I just hope this isn't included in the upgrade. :?

Once the string between the two cans doesn't trip anyone, we can use the phone system as much as we want

Office phone - be polite, keep it brief. Avoid personal calls as much as possible. We don't have voice mail on our phones except in key positions where there is likely to be high phone traffic. Calls are logged and identified as company related. Personal calls are absorbed by the company. I'm uncertain if calls are recorded. Persons who actually require access to make external calls are assigned a PIN. Everyone else must go through the operator. Overseas access is limited to persons in key positions in frequent contact with international customers and suppliers.

Company cell phone - fully subsidised for managers only. All other phones are subsidised and the subsidy varies according to the position the person holds. Cell phones are encouraged where an outgoing call is to another cell phone as it costs less. Roaming is activated for persons who travel on company business.

Personal cell phone - well, it's yours, so use as is necessary. Limit its usage while on company time. No excessively loud ringtones that can cause distractions and no obscenities.

Simple. Conservative. No one complains.
