What the Best Split level AC Units...Carrier LG, Panasonic?

Postby Smokey » February 23rd, 2010, 6:15 pm

Looking to replace two old window units with some Split level ACs.

What brand do you guys recommend?

I'm looking at reliability and quietness as the two most important factors as well as efficiency and cooling ability.

I'm seeing regular ads in the dailys for,

Peake
Carrier
Genesco
LG
Panasonic
Harrier
Katashi

Miller and Peake's M series is the same unit just diff name.....so i have been told by several A/C suppliers.

I bought the Miller for 2 yrs now and have had no problems or complaints except the vent adjustment stopped working and i can seem to find the switch to operate the A/C (Even power on /off) manually without the remote.

u get 5 yrs warranty on the compressor (same as Peakes) but an A/C sales man say that's nothing to brag about since that's the average lifespan of a compressor.

Daiken, York and Trane are supposed to be "brand name" units all very good, but also the most expensive.
I have had a multisplit Trane unit for over 10yrs and got no problems except having to change the fan blade on the outside unit and servicing

have a Panasonic 12K BTU nearly 2 years now

has an e-ion unit in it, so you really need to open up the front cover and clean it regularly to prevent it from beconing noisy.

otherwise, it works really great

Daikin is definitely the quietest out of the bunch and WHEN its working it works very well, however, they do tend to break down quite a bit and their parts are somewhat exclusive and expensive.

Carrier is quite good as well.

I share the same experience.

Current have 4 units installed over 8 years now (Residential Use).

Maintenance include routine servicing, a fan blade on two of the units, and a fan motor on one unit (recently).

Other than that... they've been jamming out cold air for at least 4-8 hours per day

i know people who have daikin units over 30yrs now without any problems at all.
plus i have had for roughly 14 years now, working every single day with no problems. just need to service every few months.
plus the warranty you get with it is 5 years on everything, not just the compressor

i take care of properties that have approx 40 + ac units brands are peake, miller, carrier toshiba, frost, panasonic and katashi sorry about the spelling

panasonic and frost are the worst, miller the old ones are good but the new models are just as the same quality as peake as DADIO said.

LG Units you will find a lot of trouble to get parts if they can be found at least in my experience

stick to toshiba, peake or katashi

to be quite honest toshiba is very impressive but the new line of peake units are good also the price cause everyone selling units but its availability of parts is the key

so in price go with Peake for quiet and cooling
toshiba a bit more expensive but cooling and noise factor are unsurpassed
katashi same as peake

fedders

runs good with no issues

originally had some issues with it and the service manager from genesco came as the techs couldnt fix the problem and replaced the complete unit

since then zero issues unit is serviced every 3 months as it runs at least 12hrs a day weekends could be more
as well the unit is run at full blast and at the lowest temp so it does get maximum use

running for 5 years now replaced the comp once as it was making noise
