Tuner Plumbers...some advice please

Postby SmokeyGTi » November 29th, 2009, 1:09 pm

Need help, sink leaking!

see the following pictures:

where the pipes meet it tried putting silicone and it worked for a long time - almost a year, but i fear this time it won't work for much longer. it was a quick fix anyway.

The top pipe is from one of the the kitchen sinks, the leak is where it joins the other that leads to the drainpipe.

any suggestions on how best to fix this would be welcome. Although I'm not a certified plumber. this will be a DIY project, just need to know what can i do...

i believe you can use one half of a 2" union (male part nah) to go into the trap :|

wait that looks like 1 1/2 pipe

1 1/2" union?

or fcuk it buy over the part(cant rem what you call it) and the trap if its damaged

peters plumbing curepe or bhagwansings trincity should be open

just carry teh pics

ohh you can try mitals plumbing (or was that martin's plumbing) five rivers. about 4 buildings before five rivers junct on the left heading west on the EMR

you can unscrew the bit that goes from the bottom of the sink to the gooseneck and just buy that and replace it
make sure you get some contact cement and plumbers tape

your wastepipe(piece threaded on to sinkhole) is too high in relation to the outlet going to the wall, so it barely goes into the trap(curved threaded thing)
I think they sell longer wastepipes now, so that is an easy fix if you find one or ask about extending it.
Otherwise it might be better to raise the outlet closer to the waste a couple inches, this would require making a new hole in the wall higher and doing over the trap etc, not that hard if the wall is clay block.
You might be able to raise it using a pair of 45's in the middle piece with the red line, but it is a big might.

btw what's the significance of the trap?

could i have just used an elbow at the bottom of the vertical pipe and then a piece running horizintally to a "T" junction to connect both sinks to the drain pipe?

corect me if I'm wrong but...

could that piece of pipe be too short? notice how the pipe from the sinkhole has to "lean" to meet the trap. I'm guessing this is what put strain on the join and ultimately lead to the leak...

the significance of the trap is to minimise drain odour entering your home......

The trap(green line) needs to go up so it will be at the level of the pink line on the waste.
You should be able to put a couple 45's, red and blue sections to raise up.
You will need a new trap and the trap would have to be angled towards the back to fit since the 45's would take up space to the left but traps are made to swivel around.

just btw,

i think the trap is also particulary useful when something u need falls into the sink...
aka a ring, or something of the sort, itll get held in the trap and not go down the drain...

Cut the fitting behind the plastic and do over the entire piping, just ensure the short piece in the yellow circle is a little longer
