Backhoe's on highway

Postby White CZ4A » July 28th, 2009, 9:05 am

wtf is this the new trend these days?
every morning is the same thing....long lines of cars on both lanes.

this morning it started from sando tech flyover up until Couva...all because of a backhoe driving on the highway.

all cars had to drive at about 30-40km/h.

Thing is...police vehicles would pass the backhoe and not bother to do anything.

I wonder if the height of the flyovers has anything to do with it.
I noticed the same thing the last time I was there, and the height of some of these backhoes/ tractors seemed pretty close to the underside of the flyover. I just assumed that putting them on a trailer might make it impassable.
Also, is there a reason why the drivers almost always have the loader just slightly above ground level and not up in the air? I always figured it probably had something to do with balance, but in the event of an accident, that loader is liable to do some serious damage :skurry:

not that primitive... the laws actually state the wheel tractors (and mopeds and something else) aren't allowed on highways...

no offence but i don't understand you all ..... one back hoe on a two lane highway just go around...... i've been a driver for four year now ,every day on the highways west to east and north to south ,and i have never had a problem with slow drivers, traffic yes crowding of the road at peak traffic times but never with a slow driver on the highway.if some one driving slow in one lane just change lanes i think thats what the multiple lanes are for.

usually that's not the case...

my experience.. is that everyone who is in a hurry runs up the left lane till their right behind the backhoe... then they cut in front of the faster moving cars in the right lane... guy slams on the brakes... and it's a trickle effect...

so what you get is TWO lanes of traffic...

then it's not really the fault of the backhoe but the drivers of the other cars that cause the pile up?

yes... and no

it's a combination of many things... the first of which being the fact that wheel tractors aren't supposed to be on highways...

which in turn leads to the above situation... while the other drivers have a part to play... the root cause is the backhoe operator...

i still disagree if the driver of the other vehicles overtake and merge into the next lane seamlessly then there would be no repercussions.......

we share the road ways of trinidad with lots of things that should not be there
(people, animals, wrong type of vehicles) but i really don't see the problem with them being there, what i see to be the problem is the amount of drivers and also the type of those drivers......

if those same drivers that in the fast lane were to just slow their pace for a lil while and courteously allow the drivers in the slow lane to overtake the tractor.
Then there would not be a pile up would there?

but is a backhoe considered a "farm" equitment or otherwise? And then so the question come up, what's the point of paying to lisence and insure a backhoe if I'm gonna make it a trailer queen? And then two this same situation can be filtered down to minor roads no?

I really don't believe that you drive...
if you do you are probably @ the age of 60 who moves @40km/h on the highway.
Hence the reason it doesn't bother you.

I see you also posted that you've been driving for four years...so maybe you got your license at 56?

Any slow moving vehicle on the highway causes a pile up of traffic. The backhoe isn't supposed to be there in the first place. Why should the other hundreds of drivers be inconvenienced for the one driver who should NOT be there.

^^^I believe transporting it otherwise is very difficult. Towing it on a trailor is very hard to pass under flyovers and towing it behind a truck well that is like an accident waiting to happen. I am frustrated the same way as you are with the traffic, but what do you think can be another option for them?

Tuner Imports, one option could be to have certain hours when they can be on the highway and when not to be... simple.
