Most the state litigatants can do in this matter is appeal, seems that's all the government can do in court , appeal and stall cases, it's their specialty after all. These guys will eventually get their money but the government going to make them wait on it.

In the eyes of the law they were wrongfully imprisoned, also they were wrongfully accused so their characters are tarnished. People will always brand them as one of them. I guess the judge took that into consideration, they can restart their lives in some with this compensation.

Easy to claim ignorance/file missing if you never showed up, but if you were there, then you knew abt it...so how could the case file be missing?

Let's be real this wasn't a small fry case, this was a high profile case where the prosecutors knew every step of the way what transpired. Makes you question if the Judiciary is compromised and probably the same reason we can't hear a word about Stuart Young's stepdaughter case.

...Persad-Bissessar stated that a careful read of Master Alexander’s judgment, however, reveals that the AG was represented by then-counsel Reid-Ballantyne at the trial of the assessment of damages, and actively participated in the ­matter.

The judgment records that Reid-Ballantyne filed written submissions and made oral arguments to the court in this matter, she added.

She pointed out that on December 1, 2022, Reid-Ballantyne was appointed a puisne judge of the High Court.

In her letter to the CJ, Persad-Bissessar raised concerns about Reid-Ballantyne ­conducting an entire trial to assess the damages in the case without having a file.

She stated: “If correct, it amounts to a gross dereliction of duty, professional negligence, and flagrant violation of the Code of Ethics that governs the legal profession.

“This would render her unfit to hold the office of judge in the Supreme Court of Justice, which requires that judges possess a high level of personal and professional integrity and impeccable character.”

The Opposition had called on Justice ­Reid-Ballantyne to clear the air on this troubling allegation as a matter of urgency, but there continues to be silence, Persad-Bissessar said.

How many judges on five year contracts in this country, when you on contract you basically on the government payroll so you have to sing for your supper. Make things appear unbiased but you can't because you on the payroll and want an extension or renewal of contract. Only justice seepersad is the unbiased judge in this country in my eyes.

After the 9 men were acquitted in 2016, a malicious prosecution case against the state was filed in 2020 which by this time is a totally new case. A defense wasn't filed and therefore a default judgement was entered in 2021 in favor of the Claimants. Anand did his part by representing his clients, the state didn't do their part, but is Anand fault? You should be blaming button down shirt Johnny Seukeran aka Faris.
