GuppiesRipe Chenette wrote:Thinking about getting back in the hobby. Planning a 5 or 10 gallon for a betta, duckweed and java moss could live without soil but debating which, both to go with. Same thing with tank mates: snails might feck up the plants, shrimp will get eaten, crays mash up plants and get bullied or will kill the fish. Suggestions?
Checking out the Discus site. Yh man eyeing shrimps but I need go need to dirt it to keep all them plants for them to hide individual betta temperment have to do with it too. Still iffy on the snails, I seen some that know how to gather floaters. Go have to modify a sponge filter to break up bubbles and make it less disruptive for the bettas and duckweed.VexXx Dogg wrote:Snails don't eat plants. I have a couple mystery snails and a handful of Malaysian trumpets. (The goldies keep the population in check). My goldfish eat plants like food, but I like live plants and it helps the tank ecosystem, so I just pick up new plants every few months. Amazon Swords last the longest with them tho - current batch of swords going on 2 years.
For a 10G, I would have done a nice male betta, a couple mystery snails and possibly some shrimp (once you have lots of hiding places)
Pet Essentials in Couva has a lovely 5G cube fully planted at the moment, but you can build it yourself for a lot cheaper.
Discus Den TT has lots of plant varieties, including red crypts that you can mix/match to build your ideal tank.
My community tank is not shrimp friendly, so I want to so a shrimp tank reallllly bad with a lot of plants/natural aquascaping

The shell takes a zillion years to dissolve, and the java moss will eat up all that yummy nitrateRipe Chenette wrote:Wouldn't the coconut breaking down add to the ammonia?timelapse wrote:Looks like this after a while
Forget the picsRipe Chenette wrote:Studying to go for a 15g instead of a 10 for stability and space. Starting to visualize how I want it set up. Have some nice rocks as hardscape and to attach rhizomes to, patches of moss here and there on the subatrate using these two pics and rivers as inspiration.
Still have the 8 gallon contained I used for breeding livebearers as sacrifice to the shelled ones as a backup/breeder for the shrimp. Divided between ghost and cherries.
People with thermometers average water temp in a room? How does it relate to the air temp?

Peakes lists a 15x20 for $3k+. Probably gold lined, I dunno.
QPSL FB says $158/running ft@13 ft wide but that is a post from 2016 so i will see the actual price tomorrow.
Online is $40-60 USD plus heavy shipping but might still work out cheaper but i doubt them fish will survive the 10ish days to get that.
