question for the indians

why do we indians call ourselves "indians" even though if we go to India, we are recognised as non-indians? are we not trinis?

west indians too long to say and we cah call we self west so we say indians :D

but in Trinidad we say we are Indians, but we know if we go India we are not indians, so we say we are West Indian or Trinidadian, all of ah sudden we proud to be a trini. but in Trinidad, we Indian. double standards? or a subtle indirect act of being racist in order to differentiate?

they just confused ,,, , i say put all a dem ,, on a boat and send dem back to the 'motherland' as well as them overly afro-centric dashiki wearin weirdos ,,, send dem back africa ... they can both fight for identity there and the remainder of us TRINIS will be happy like pappy :lol:

Actually in India we are recognized as non resident Indians.

I’ve heard that u can even apply for a NRI cyard.
On another note from the link I would've never thought that there are 90,000 indians in jamaica.....and I've been to Jamaica. How come u never hear anything about them?

LOL...Generally when one says "Indian" it's just a description of one's ethnicity. It's not their fault that Indian also refers to nationals of India. Not to mention it's much easier to say "I'm Indian" rather than "I am of Indian descent" though the latter makes the distinction between ethnicity and nationality much clearer...8-)

I used to think I was Indian...now ppl does just call me Red Man...go figure... :lol:
