steups, almost every house in BIM has a solar heater on the roof.
even at some "resorts" in bago.

In T'dad, it's a charge to have solar panels connected to the same lines as the mains. And T&TEC is like the TTASA of electricity. (The only source of electrical suuply).

Even fugging yachts have solar mats, which are used as decking, safe to walk on, yet charges batteries for most small electricals on the boat.

News/Updates - Tax Tips - Green Fund Levy

Green Fund Levy
A Tax known as the Green Fund Levy was introduced with effect from January 01 2001.

It is to be levied (paid) at the rate of 0.1% on the gross sales or receipts of any company carrying business in Trinidad and Tobago whether or not such business is exempt from Business Levy.

This levy was enacted under the Miscellaneous Taxes Act, Ch. 77:01.

Purpose of the Green Fund
The purposes of the Fund are as follows:-

to enable grants to be made to community groups and organizations primarily engaged in activities related to the remediation, reforestation and conservation of the environment;
to undertake or do all such things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the purpose referred to at paragraph (i).
When is it payable?
The Green Fund Levy is due and payable to the Board of Inland Revenue on the gross sales or Receipts of a company for each quarter (March 31, June 30, September 30, December 31) in each year of income.

In ascertaining the gross sales or receipts of a quarter a company may estimate the sales of the last 1-3 days of the quarter. Where an estimation is made and the actual sales of that quarter exceed the estimated figure, the short payment must be paid by the end of the quarter immediately following that quarter in which the sales or receipts were estimated.

Interest on short payments or late payments
Where a company which is liable to the quarterly payment of the Green Fund Levy pays less than 90% of its liability at the end of the quarter; interest is charged at the rate of 20% per annum on the difference between the 90% of the liability and the amount paid.

This interest shall accrue from the end of the quarter in which the liability occurred to the date of payment.

N.B: In ascertaining the Chargeable Profits of a company, no deduction is allowed for any payments made to this Fund.

Overpayment of the Green Fund Levy
Where the Board of Inland Revenue is satisfied that a company has overpaid the levy in any quarter, the company is entitled to a refund of the excess tax paid.

However, instead of making a refund, the Board may otherwise choose to apply the excess tax against any future liability and notify the company accordingly.

NOTES:

(1) The Green Fund Levy shall be under the care and management of the Board of Inland Revenue.

Mr. Speaker, through the Green Fund, the Government is partnering with the private sector
and community groups to ensure that the environment will be conserved and enhanced for
the benefit of future generations. The Green Fund Executing Unit commenced operations
on the second of this month and has started a comprehensive marketing and
communications campaign which will serve primarily to introduce the Green Fund to the
public, raise awareness about the Fund, the work it does and how one can apply to the
Green Fund.
The programmes undertaken through the Green Fund will foster community integration,
youth development and national pride, as our citizens participate in the protection,
restoration and preservation of our natural environment and wildlife.
The Fund now stands at approximately $1.5 billion and the Green Fund Executing Unit will
work with and make grants available to community based organisations and nongovernmental
organisations for remediation, reforestation and conservation projects. The
approved projects will be monitored, evaluated and given the support necessary to ensure
best practices and efficient use of resources so that together, we can protect Trinidad and
Tobagoâ€™s environment.

The EMA can only recommend but it's up to the government to decide. They're a waste of time IMO, to fool the public that they're looking out for our interest when in fact they're just set up to put a rubber stamp on environmentally damaging projects.

"Oil is King"...according to Patos...too many of big boys and girls have their hand in the petroleum barrel so they're not going to develop any industry in direct competition with that. No doubt this was one of the reasons that they moved quickly to dismantle the sugar industry after its potential in Ethanol production was discovered...

The roll of the EMA is formulate policies as it pertains to the environment, regulate and monitor residents and commercials ensuring compliance, to educate to ensure compliance, to direct the legal framework to prosecute those that do not comply.
