"Under the bonnet you get a 1.6 litre engine which, if you really grit your teeth, will get you from 0-62mph in less than 9sec and onwards to a top speed of 124. But you really have to be determined to make it go that fast. The last few mph always feel like they’ve come from the car’s heart rather than its engine."

a corolla GLi goes from around 160k. The lower one is about 120k. Get the GLi if you are buying a corolla.

If you going economical, buy a corolla, it have pull eh.. but its a quite economical car. The swift sport i think is a lil too expensive. Its actually 140k.

(these prices are what i found out around march not sure if they are still that price)

Fully loaded brand new lancer (2006 model though) is $144k (without sunroof). Very nice car, comfortable and quite fast. Does not have the new fancy features of the 2008 lancer (like HIDs, cornering headlights, MIVEC etc) but is a very good car for the price.

Go local... new or something less than 3 years old with low mileage.

SUVs are are nice ... a 3 year Accord or Legacy might fall in your price category. Or a less than a two year old fully loaded corolla/civic.

It all depends on what you're looking for...
