I'd say the pivots and fork are weak points. If you're thinking about changing fork, drivetrain etc probably would come out better with a used bike from one of the bigger brands. Frame likely will be better. BUT all this depends on intended use. You enjoy riding it and that's all that really matters.

I tried this a few times while watching YouTube videos on how to do it and could never dial it in properly. The very first time, I screwed up my rear indexing SOOO bad that I had to take it to a bike shop to fix
Maybe I too poohar

rear derailleur is actually easier to setup, all you are really looking for is the jockey wheels to line up with the cogs since the cable movement is the same for each actuation.

front can be more trial and error since you need to make sure each chainring doesnt rub on the derailleur for whatever range of the cogs you want it to use if not all. Often it will be harder to get say big front big back and small front small back to not rub unless you really make an effort to check all the range extremes.

everything I do will be gradually over time, prob starting with the forks
For what I currently do, the gears are fine for now. Same for the pivots (no jumps, drop-offs etc) but I'll eventually upgrade those bolts just for peace of mind
Did 15 miles in Macquerepe and along the chaguaramas bike lane yesterday. Nothing spectacular by the standards of the guys in here but that was my longest ride to date. Good tired after

That's a good pull man. I usually ride from home up to caura river and back. It's around the same distance. One if the best thing about these covid restrictions was feeling safer on that road

yup, tbh I doubt I'll ever feel comfortable enough to ride on public roads. Having taught defensive driving for a number of years, 90% of drivers terrify me, and that's no exaggeration
One of my goals is to ride up St Catherine

I think it depends on the time and location. Central range is a nice vibe.
Central on the whole pretty decent to ride. The Brasso-Caparo road is a fantastic route. Can leave chaguanas, head down tabaquite and come back in a few hours. The drivers on that route not too hoggish in my experience.
EW corridor iffy unless you moving in a group. Highway off limits to me personally I can't bring myself to ride there. The southern main road from Couva to Chaguanas not too bad on Sunday mornings or afternoons.

I did lots of routes all over if you want me to share ones close to your location. I ride solo, but take part in big rides a couple times per year with Central Spokes

I know a lot of the routes. For me it's just a personal choice. The risk of one idiot on a quiet road isn't worth the risk
Even the macqueripe stretch has its share of jackasses, many of whom are carrying bikes -__-

lol bigger problem is lungs. Permanently reduced capacity from scarring caused by pneumonia about 5 years ago. Part of why I ride and walk up Breezy is to keep the rest kinda ok
I'm game for that Tortuga pull if you and Timelapse have patience for this old fogey

I don't have a bike right now on account of me giving my old one to a neighbour that needs it more than me for work (Wackerman). One of these days I will buy a new one.Hiking in the bush gets my rocks off these days.
That being said, drive it first and get a feel for it.The view is worth it either way

Lungs capacity are easily solved by doing low intensity milage rides. Just go out and ride your bike daily in low gearing. Learn to spin the cranks around 88 to 95 rpm. After some weeks ur capacity should improve with ur overall aerobic endurance with regards to heart, oxygen transport, lungs and muscles.

Easy 1 to 2 hrs rides a day helps by 5 rides a week.

correct
long steady is what builds
steady sustained efforts

don’t go and try riding as hard as possible
you will just go anaerobic and stress your body

yup,
I know
working on consistent cadence
I'll never get back to 100% capacity because the scarring is permanent, so goal is just maximize what's left
So I do a mix of the roads where I live, and trails on a Sunday

I've driven it a few times, usually from Claxton Bay flyover to the church. I've done it form Gran Couva side too but the roads were lil iffy (land slides etc)
But yeah the views are stellar
So when we doin a Paria Falls hike?

you can live normal with 70% lungs
and the average human never trains to reach they maximum so chances are other factors will bottleneck before your lungs

Still doing Chaguaramas trails when I have company

Also, for all the other nOObs in the ched, the other pic underscores the importance of regular inspections
Luckily that bolt fell out in the car on the drive home, but clearly it was on the verge of falling out on the trail
So loctite is on the shopping list this week

Yea, I almost had a clusterfuck of an accident due to inexperience with that kinda riding.

Had a hardtail specialized and the front fork was quick release with a dropout axle.

I was riding down the last big hill in gran Couva (tower descent into la Vega( when I heard a strange clunk in the front.
I stopped to realise my QR was completely loose and as soon as I lifted the front the wheel dropped out.
I coulda wipe out bad.

Learning moment there is always inspect before every ride, even if it's the night before. Check tire pressures, look for any embedded debris,. make sure axles are snug, shifting is smooth, chain lubed etc. Don't forget to have some tools and spares handy too.
