Not yet... this case more than likely reaching Privy Council.

Some local lawyers work closely with these refugees before they reach T&T. By the time they land, court injunction already filed.

Real people making money from this business.

The church is complicit in this as they get funding from unhcr.

So whats really new here guys?

We are aware that they “can be” deported, but the Govt continues to make its provisions.

The Venezuelans are here to stay.

A joint exercise which saw several arms of national security working together yesterday morning resulted in 200 Venezuelan nationals being detained after it was discovered they were undocumented.

The detainees were held as they partied at a popular bar along the Western Main Road, St James.

The group, which included people between the ages of 17 to 46, were subsequently taken to the Heliport, Chaguaramas.

The exercise sanctioned by ACP Maharaj, coordinated by Snr Supt Henry, and spearheaded by Insp Davidson and Sgt Adams also included members of the Defence Force as well as the Immigration Division.

Officials carried out the raid between 1.30 am and noon yesterday, and interviewed the attendees who were reportedly guests at a birthday party hosted by the manager of the establishment and another business owner.

Among them were several male individuals dressed as women.

Officials said a final count resulted in 96 males and 95 females being detained, as they were suspected to be illegal immigrants after failing to produce any documents permitting them to be in T&T.

This is disgraceful conduct by the authorities. Read the article folks. The authorities went into a social event and just started arresting people that didn't have proof of status on them. It is unreasonable bordering on harassment. How would you feel if you went to a foreign country and were subject to that same type of harassment based on your skin color and accent?

And let us call this "action" by island authorities for what it is: an election stunt. The locking up of party goers is to make the papers and fool people into thinking the government is doing something while that same government is ignoring the porous border and the constant flow of drugs, guns, gangs and human trafficking.

Like u don't kno, that the ones that here and registered legally are issued a registration card that's quite portable, since it's the exact same size as your ID card.
Failing that, they will be given an opportunity to prove that they are here legally via other means.

You have a solid point, IMO. It's amazing how no one on the TV show COPS ever had ID in their pocket. That card must get heavy when you plan on doing something illegal.

Good Morning everyone.

Just look at those beautiful faces.

Put all the differences aside. We must look after T&Ts future.

Agreed, for this migration thing to work, they need to be well integrated.

The kids need to be well educated to get jobs in the future.
Also jobs need to be created, I say we open back forkin Caroni 1975 or some other large agricultural venture.

(also we should still try to secure the borders and make sure no more come across)

A Venezuelan refugee was arrested after he was caught with a gun and ammunition in penal on Thursday 13th July, 2023.

• The suspect was identified as a 32-year-old Venezuelan national, Luis Alberto Salazar, who had an expired UNHCR Refugee card.

• Around 7:30am, Pc Hosein and officers of the Penal C.I.D went to Salazar’s apartment at 3mm Penal Rock Road and conducted a search warrant exercise.

• During the search, the officers discovered a browning semi-automatic pistol loaded with 2 live rounds of ammunition.
Salazar who is not the holder of a Trinidad and Tobago firearm user's license was subsequently arrested.
