The number for the first game seems high, I recall seeing completely empty stands except for Indian supporters.

Maybe that's true but generally , doesn't the oval generate more income than any grounds in the Caribbean for cricket matches ? Yet, we get the least amount of games ????

We never generated as much money as smaller grounds in the islands despite the larger capacity. It all boiled down to currency with ours being less favorable than the EC and Bajan dollar. But today the real money is in TV rights and not ground attendances though.

We have greater purchasing power. So that is just being taken advantage of.

I'm not sure if he's in good form. He hasn't impressed me at all recently. If he is tho... he could win a match by himself

The guns/mercenaries would always be available for the WI T20 team (once there is there clash with their mercenary tournaments). The requisite for being picked is to have played in the CPL which all the mercenaries do.
Tests require you to play in the 4 day FC competition and ODI picks require you to play in the Super50 which the mercenaries don't do eliminating themselves from those two forms of cricket.

Mercs? You see what's happening with cricket Australia right now? I think it's hilarious people continue to call gayle and the like mercenaries, when legends Richards, Holding, Clive and the crew went to play world series for Packer and were called the same. And it wasn't only them, it was the best of the lot internationally being called traitors that signed secret contracts for better income. What's different about players going to play IPL for better money?
Lara himself led the WI into a pay dispute in South Africa. Rational folks don't keep a low paying job for regional and self pride if they're being compensated and treated better elsewhere.

With GATE and national scholarships you have to serve time for the government once you qualified.

A cricketer (and even local footballers) receive vast resources from the state through - direct and indirect funding, facilities (think 1b for the Lara cricket academy for example), sponsorship etc. At the end of all the development the cricketers they can do as they please with regards to employment and just be like fack it to the national team!! I'm sure money spent on national teams can be better spent elsewhere like health.
Even in development at the WI level the WICB pays for A-Team tours (these make no money), coaching, bowling remediation (Cooper and Narine to Australia) etc.

It would be interesting to get a dollar value figure on the cost to bring a cricketer to international level and then ask them to repay that once they earning the big money.

There should be a balance by both players and administrators.

Yup. The presence of the seasoned seniors did wonders today for West Indies. I have a feeling after this year's CPL.....Smith might be back on the playing 11.......lol
