2005 Mazda 3 1.6L.....a friend's car....using premium since purchased and wants to know if she can switch to super...she is bess btw.

I can't say abt the 2005 model, but according to the owner's manual, 2010 Maz3 1.6L (the "smiley face" model) uses premium and premium only.
