I did receive it but I've never used it.

That update stressed me out though, was looking all over for how to go back to 4.1.2 and thing.

Like the comment pioneer made about his friend's tablet taking forever to open the keyboard, almost that bad!

Decided to give a reset a try and very happily it's working well again. Also started to download all the apps I had installed on its own, I didn't have to do anything. Still wanna sell it and get a Tab 3 8.0 but at least I won't feel bad about selling it to someone.

Well there is an Easter Egg in the OOKLA speed test app in the results screen. The circle pulls down and when held all the way down the Ookla cat appears. Hmmm.

Someone finally found it!! Ookla is named after the cat, keep doing it over and over and await the surprise!!

PS swipe down on when the speed test results pop up then a wild Ookla appears!

Motorola's 'Project Ara' modular smartphone setup switches out hardware like apps

Image

We were intrigued by the Phonebloks concept phone that teased the ability to switch out a handset's components the way most users change ringtones, and now Motorola is putting its resources behind it. In what Motorola calls Project Ara, the advanced Technology and Products group is working with Phonebloks creator Dave Hakkens on an "endoskeleton (endo) and modules." Announced this evening on the company blog by Paul Eremenko, the company says it's already "done deep technical work" and is opening the process up to the community and volunteers (aka Ara Scouts, sign up here) to begin designing hardware modules. Its stated goal is to do for hardware what it says Android has done for software: create a vibrant third-party developer ecosystem, lower the barriers to entry, increase the pace of innovation, and substantially compress development timelines."

Suggestions for modules include the phone's CPU, display, extra battery, external sensors or anything else one can think of. The timeline currently points to a Module Developer's Kit (MDK) release this winter, while those volunteers can expect an exclusive discount when the product launches and the 100 most active are getting free phones. Hakkens has described his design as a "phone worth keeping" -- with the ability to upgrade piece by piece and (hopefully) never experience obsolescence again we'd call this idea a phone definitely worth building.

K guys so I need some of the experts help. I came home today and put my N7 to charge, not sure if it was dead or not..more than likely it was either really low or dead. I haven't been using it recently but I leave it powered on in a cool room all day even when not using it. Now it powers on, then shuts off immediately after boot saying low battery. When I leave it charging, it'll showing the battery is charging until the screen blanks off, then it'll report it's filled. It will ONLY power on (even into bootloader mode) when plugged in.

Things I tried -

Reflashed a Rom (FULL wipe)
Reseat the battery connector

Any help would be greatly appreciated...I've run out of things to try.

Android tops 81 percent of smartphone market share in Q3

Image

Image

Now that we know what smartphone market share looked like in the third quarter when broken down by manufacturer, it's time to compare performance by platform. As you'd imagine, the world is still Android's oyster. Strategy Analytics estimates that the OS has crossed the symbolic 80 percent mark, reaching 81.3 percent of smartphone shipments by the end of September. Not that Google was the only company doing well -- Nokia's strong US sales helped Windows Phone grow to 4.1 percent of the market, or nearly double what it had a year ago. Whether or not these trends continue is another matter. Although Android likely isn't in danger given the launches of phones like the Galaxy Note 3, there are also new iPhones and Lumias on the scene; there may be one or two surprise upsets when the fourth quarter is over.

Samsung ousts Apple from top spot in JD Power tablet satisfaction rankings

The great tech rivalry of recent times has a new milestone in its narrative today, courtesy of JD Power whose tablet owner satisfaction study has placed Samsung ahead of Apple for the first time. Apple has in the past cited these very rankings as indicative of the iPad's preeminence and superiority — having noted back in June that iOS devices were on a run of nine consecutive JD Power awards — so it's a blow to the company's public image to lose out in a comparison that it has shown itself to care about.

The margin between Samsung and Apple is razor thin, with the Korean maker of Android tablets gaining a score of 835 to Apple's 833. Tim Cook and company will find solace in the more detailed breakdown, where Apple's tablets earn the full five stars for performance, features, ease of use, physical design, and overall satisfaction, falling only at the final hurdle: cost. Samsung's victory looks to have been built on tablet buyers' sense of getting more value for their money.
