Saw some of this sea weed like growth coming out of my rocks. I hope that its a good sign and develops into something nice.

That seaweed plant is most likely what they call turtle grass (from the pic) and actually hardly anything eats it. I had it growing in my tank when i first started the tank and also thought it was cool and i left it. Its too hard and of the five tangs (sailfin, powder brown, yellow, hippo and orange shoulder) only the orange shoulder woul just pick at the new young shoots. I went away for about 1 mth and came back and it ended up becoming a plague and took over 2 big rocks (over 2 sq/ft) You have to kill it another way. Phosbhan works real good. All was dead in three wks with regular media change.
What i hated about it was the fish would pick at it and i would have it clogging my powerheads, overflow, sump and some ended up in my return pump. Its a real pest. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
Coralline comes in many different colors and shades, pinks, purples, reds..........even green. Green grows the least though. Eventually the reds and purples will overgrow it. I tried taking it and releasing the spores all over. its the hardest to grow also. They actually say its a luck and chance.

^^^^ you cant go wrong. When current goes, the MP unit switches over to the battery. It actually runs the powerhead at a set speed - 10% (which you cant adjust). It can run your powerhead (1) for up to 30hrs. It really works good along with the air pump. I run 2 of the air pumps. One in my main and the other in my sump.

have always kept an arrow crab in my tank last 6-7 years, cause they so common you can pick them up almost every time you go snorkeling. they full of character and easy to keep, and with leds their front claws glow bright blue.

never bothered any coral or fish. i have seen them picking around the base of coral, but i think its the mico fauna they after not the coral.

my only issue with them, is if well fed they molt like every month, and double in size with each molt and then within 6 months they die. pretty sure they have short lifespans.

Hi all,

I have 2 fish that have not been playing nice with my coral.
A foxface about 4 inches long and an orange shoulder tang. He is still young and yellow.

The orange shoulder is relentless at eating nuisance algae but has also started picking on some corals and my clams.

The Foxface seems to be coping the orange shoulder and now has the habit.

I caught them and there in the sump so no hurry but would like to see if anybody is interested in them? All options are considered trades or what not?

On a side note I purchased some fish a few months back from a local supplier and got a ich. I have cleaner shrimp which have managed it and am formulating a plan to remove it from the tank. These 2 fish don't show any signs of it but in all fairness I want whoever is interested of the potential and would recommend medicating them first. These fish are very healthy and good eaters.

Thanks,
Allen T.

Just a little info....
The cleaner wrasses/shrimp can aide in removing dead or damaged skin cells caused by the infestation of ich on fish. However, many of the parasites are deeply embedded and out of reach of the cleaner fish or shrimp. Ich is under the skin of fish and not available to be "picked off". The "whitespot" is not the actual feeding parasite, its just evidence of its presence. I am trying to find the article (Coral magazine) where scientists cut open 100 skunk cleaner shrimp and no ich parasite were ever found in all 100. They say its actually its a myth.

Had 12 in the same aquarium when I started out......BIG mistake.
They fight constantly for territory...ended up with 4 in separate tanks....the last one lived for close to 3 1/2 years

HondaB20B,

Thanks for the information.
I have definitely learned my lesson when it comes to introducing new fish.
I am planning on moving so will medicate when I transport the fish to the new place in a separate aquarium. In the mean time it is not getting worse but some fish seem more susceptible. ie powder brown tang and hippo tangs. all other fish look fine.

On a side note one of the reasons I started the salt water aquarium was I could catch some cool stuff while diving and put it in m tank. That pretty much has always ended in disaster. Its amazing how everything in the sea wants to kill each other.

I have decided that anything that goes in my new tank whether its from a LFS or caught in the ocean will go in a quarantine tank for a few months. that includes rock, coral, inverts and fish. Its to expensive of a hobby to chance it. Even the stuff in my tank now will be quarantined first.

^^^^^.....lol. The reason why tangs in particular get ICH very easily is because majority of tangs don't have scales. And especially how hippo tangs, powder brown and powder blue love to sleep or lay on the sand when threatened, they are prone to it. There are a few other fish also. Fishes like mandarins and certain other types that has a heavy mucus coat are not likely able to contract the Ich. Inverts cannot contract ich. Once the immune system of a fish is week or the fish is under stress, they are the ones to show the first signs. Sometimes you may have a tank with over 20 fish and the weakest one might be the only one that shows signs and then it disappears. Once your fish is eating healthy and stress free, they stand a good chance. My main reef tank up and running more than 2 yrs now with mainly the same inhabitants, and every 2-3 mths my hippo tang always shows little signs and then it disappears. Him alone. I have never used any type of meds in my reef tank. Just regular feedings and water changes. I cant even catch the majority of my fish if I was to put anything in QT. Cant really move around all that rock.....LOL

Guess that depends on What bulbs you running (K), how much T5 bulbs you have and how much watts they pushing. Actinics you can change them out. But yes. But you dont need to wait a whole week.
