Xabi Alonso receives GQ's Best Sportsman of the Year award

Xabi Alonso received GQ's Best Sportsman of the Year award yesterday. The midfielder was accompanied by his wife, to whom he dedicated the accolade. Alvaro Arbeloa attended the ceremony with his wife in support of his Real Madrid teammate.

"I'm honoured to win this award because I have been a GQ reader for many years," said Alonso, "I'm proud to be amongst the other winners and I'm truly grateful. I'm very happy. Nevertheless, individual awards aren't completely fair, and I wish to thank my friends, family and Real Madrid teammates."
