Whats considered a good salary in TnT?

Adopt the mentality i had for a long time...if u cant make it on one salary...try two!!! Work more than one job- and guess what u dont have to worry about PAYE tax if both jobs are 5k and under. But ur gross wud be 9-10k a month!! You would be tired and wouldnt have time for much but if u do it right u would have a decent savings once u have the ambition and discipline.

Work two or three jobs...in Trinidad? What madness you talking.
But bet your bottom dollar as soon as they board that plane to the states...is 3-4jobs they looking for.

I've always been paid on time by my employer, but I believe ojt takes a while to reimburse them.

No probably not, because it isn't a 'charge' per say, but it falls under tax evasion which is a civil offense.

You will be required to pay up by inland revenue....not sure what happens when you don't. But good luck.

Thanks for your story effectic, sometimes i still think about what it would be like just abandoning all my degree pursuits(past accomplished and current pursued) and just go on the sea (fisherman) and live a humble, simple (enjoyable)life.

Boy, you might have a better life. the fishermen making more money than people with degrees, especially around lent.

But how do you measure the value of a degree though? all depends on the kind of program you do right?

Some are useless and some can make you rich. I think school is really about how you used your time and what you learned that was useful to yourself and the world.

Say you go to medical school you sure that you will be benefiting humanity. Or if you become a scientist, you can solve problems really.

Sometimes people have degrees but it is not compatible with the character of the individual. Some kids believe having a degree automatically mean that they know and some can be quite cocky in an interview when it comes to their academic background and life pursuits but when industry based questions is asked it usually humbles them down. When they come into the interview humble from the beginning they sometimes land the job.

Even in a school like UTT they have things like steel pan degree or a bsc degree in culture LOL. I still don't even know the purpose of that and how that even landing you a Job. I think manning just come up with that just for so... So I won't say its just for profit schools alone running a bunch of useless degrees. But the funny thing is you still have a better chance of landing a Job in something steel pan related like a government Job via UTT placements than you would with a 1 year MBA that CTSSBCSTCBSCTSBCTSBCSTCS offering.

Friend of mine did those 1 year Australian MBA degrees and he says it was a grand waste of money. 3 years and it did nothing for him, he taught because its "Foreign" it was great and would buy his way into a great paying Job but it in reality did nothing for him. Recently someone on tuner sent me a PM for advice he said he has a MBA but he cannot get a Job anywhere in Trinidad.

I didn't know how to explain it to him but I think its supply and demand. If everyone can pass a business degree then getting a Job in that field regardless of how big it is will be very hard. Then look at Engineering and Science, few people are willing to do those and the ones who do it only a few have a real passion for it. I think what people forget is if you want to make money then you need to go into the financial field. One needs a passion to do Science and Engineering because without that its a recipe for disaster, why do physics and calculus if you have 0 intentions of ever using it.

Man thats so good that people locally are willing to go to such an extent. People like you are far and few between Biology is am awesome field my favorite scientist ever is the Biologist Richard Dawkins, a few of the greats had enhanced my passion for science years ago. These people are the likes of Stephen Hawking, Richard Dawkins, Lawrence Krauss, Michio Kaku, Bill Nye, Heinrich Hertz and last but not least the master of them all Sir Isaac Newton.

Just imagine Newton developed Calculus at the rate of which we learn it at university level. Just imagine that? without Newton, Engineering would not be possible.

Ok not to make this thread about taxes but how are you going to be deducted tax from your salaries if neither one is in the tax bracket of 60k a yr? Your tax gets deducted from your employer so unless you say "yo boss man i have a lil ting doin on de side so mth end take out enuf for d both nah" Anyway....in light of the corruption in this country not correctly filing ur taxes is a drop in the ocean. Unless Ian Alleyne come for me cuz he run outta stories to show. But yea..working multiple jobs is the best way to live that kinda life you want if ur an avg joe and cant pull a 9000+ job. I paid for school,an apt and saved for a car at the same time

That's why some ppl like to get paid in cash so if they get audited their bank account won't show that income. And for all the ppl working BIR that reading this please note I don't do that.

So when they pullin through and realise is two incomes against this one number and zero taxes were deducted, then prepare your agnus because you will get a lil envelope saying you owe the government money.

Yup, working OJT in the private sector does kill you out. First time I dream about work and thing. But the experience is far better. Once I getting paid and don't have to work overtime I rather have too much work than too little work.

well I admit it may be a big stereotype,but I made that comment because once I was part of a private company and the said company made itself available for OJT employees.The company took on 3 people and the first thing the people say "I tort all we had to do was photocopy and file like what them ministry people does do".They lasted one month before they asked to leave.
I probably made a "big stereotype" but I am yet to be convinced by the output of OJT employees.

Save yourself the time it took me to learn this:

Your qualification just gets your resume on the short list,

your experience gets you to the interview,

your attitude gets you promoted,

your connections can get you all of the above and

your ulterior influence / outside of work relationship can trump all.

Tertiary education is only what you make of it; don't get your hopes up when you see other "successful" people unless you know their back-story.

Ok, i know this is demotivating, but its better to be prepared than just be hopeful.

This also does not apply everywhere, but I've seen it all too often.

I'll get on it right after I finish my current books. I'm reading the foundation series by Asimov. Wait! You into robotics so you may like his books. He is the guy that invented the word robotics in his fictional stories. I read that the scientists that started developing robotics did it because his books inspired them.
