Let's get one thing straight....there is absolutely no suffering by these "poor" youth in London. The welfare state in England ensures that an unemployed lazy ass dunce has a better life & salary than a typical UWI graduate.

This welfare state basically encourages a large percentage of youth to be lazy and unambitious.

So why riot all of a sudden? Could be the budget cuts, could be bandwagonists jumping on "legitimate" protests of the killing of the gang leader, could be the arabic wave of discontent has spread to the uk.

Whatever the catalyst for these protests I don't expect them to reduce unless the police get things under control. Otherwise look forward to these riots spreading all over the UK and maybe even Europe and possible the US (if Obama loses in 2k12).

This is and always been a huge negative of a welfare state that breeds laziness while simultaneous giving people a lot of freedoms. It almost always encourages anarchy given the slightest discontent.

Bored unemployed youth are a very dangerous thing.

Once the wave has started and picks up sufficient momentum it will never be easy to stop.

I have lots of close family in London (hell i spend a month there every year) as well and I spoke to a few a tonight and they assured me that 99% of Londoners are safe with no riots nearby. Rioting is taking place in centralized areas of mainly depressed communities.

Everything is business as usual in most areas, but still everyone is on guard for crazy ass rioters/hooligans.

They didn't give 2 sheits about getting an education, were punks all through life and what little schooling they got. They are now technically unemployable since no one will hire those liabilities.

They hate new immigrants, yet love living off the dole and in council houses paid by those same immigrants taxes. Farking scum, all of them. Worse than beethamites imo because they have/had so many handouts and privileges which the vast majority of the world do not.

The sad part is, that recently more and more 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants of Caribbean descent, especially Jamaicans, are partaking in this lifestyle.

Please explain this to RASC, hes a little brain washed by the US. I dont belive that RASC has ever Lived nor worked in England. To undersand all of this you need to be in the system and not read from a book.

Just heard an interview via the BBC...the reporter had about 3 kids in front of him:

"I'll loot until I get caught init...my parents know I'm here...I'll probably get shouted at when I return home, but I could live with that...yeah sure I can afford these sneakers if I wanted to buy it, but I'm just doing it cause everyone else is...if someone broke into my house and stole everything from my parents, I'd be gutted init"

That's the kinda ignorance that is taking place. The "chav" culture is alive and well in those parts. These kids have NO summer jobs, NO desire to work and not one care in the world. They live off the dole and live to cause mayhem.

LONDON BRIDGE IS FALLING DOWN! - D Mighty Sparrow - listen to dat tune.

The chickens have come home to roost! Thug Life has always been part of their culture.....but now everybody vex when the youths stand up, and say F-U we will burn this M-F_*ker DOWN!

As usual they blaming blacks and not the policies of Government. For the first time these youths and the citizens are facing serious cutbacks, especially to free education WE ALL deserve.

Time people realize this Generation X got 'real balls' and is not going to take Sh*t lying down ....because its THEIR FUTURE! (and they will burn it down and rebuild it if they have tooooo!!!!)

Like the old guy told the BBC reporter, its simple, listen to the YOUTHS, not the BBC!

You're as dense as they come.

These looters are a bunch of punk kids who are using this opportunity to score free stuff.

You really think they care about the rise in university prices?! They probably don't even have any GCE passes and have absolutely no chance of getting into any university.

They end up getting some chavette pregnant, and are gifted a council house and monthly stipend just because they're a British citizen.

These riots are the polar opposite of the riots in Egypt/Tunisia/Libya etc, where the youth were fighting for their freedom from oppression and tyranny.

London cannot be compared to a US standard with regards to "opportunities".

The U.K. is far more socialistic than the states, they get almost everything free over there. That is why the place is so bloody expensive, taxes are SKY high. Because all the work you do, but be used to feed these monsters.

These ppl are opportunistic thugs. The family of the slain victims have spoken out about the riots and condemned it significantly.

They live off the gov't and expect everything to just fall in their laps. The place has to become more capitalist if it is to survive. Not the other way around.

What bullocks.

Poor neighborhoods, Totenham included, pay one of the highest council tax in the country. It appears you are not aware that tax is determined by how much the local borough spends. A poorer area would spend more money on providing services than a wealthier one. Here you have a situation where higher taxes are being paid by those residents with lower incomes. Local services have been cut but the tax continues to increase resulting in frustration. Couple this with disgruntled and unemployed youths and you have a recipe for disaster.

Moreover, all programs for youths were shut down without any alternatives. All the pensioner's luncheon clubs were closed down. More than half the residents are in low paid jobs or unemployed/sick. It is NOT about socialism and it's not about opportunistic thugs running rampant. It's about milking more from the poor through taxes without providing opportunities in return. The murder of Duggan was just icing on the cake.

Like I said, this revolt should come as no surprise.

I want to address this comment but first can you please explain how these youths are not "fighting for their freedom from oppression and tyranny" and how their struggle is any different from those in the Middle East.

Thanks.

I am appalled and disturbed as the next person by all which has gone down over the last few days...but I'm appalled because I wish it DIDN'T have to go down this way.

These people's looting is more savage, visceral and visual and captured on film for all eternity, but the looting which goes on behind the scenes is NEVER captured on film, however the people rioting now are presumably the beneficiaries of government greed and corruption.

So who is worse I ask you? The looters and opportunist on the streets, or the ones who do it under cover of darkeness?

I keep hearing sh*t like, "well they can't be that impoverished if they are commincating on I-phones and Blackberrys". But anyone can own such devices if they have 35 quid a month, and STILL NOT HAVE A POT TO PISS IN.

Sure, 60% of the planet would sacrifice an arm to be as poor as the poorest person in the U.K, but it's all relative isn't it?

It's never been a level playing field and black people, especially black men have been getting SHAT on from a great height in the United Kingdom, for many a decade.

I abhor the violence, but I also understand the **** YOU attitude...and destruction.

Has anyone seen the Royal family???

Seeing how taxpayers paid for their most illustrious recent wedding they could at least grace the public with their presence in witnessing what has and continues to take place.

Let me guess, they're on vacation??
