Jack: Prakash disappointed me
By Anna Ramdass anna.ramdass@trinidadexpress.com

FIFA Vice President Jack Warner said last night he has no intention of stepping down as this country’s Minister of Works and Transport.
He criticised Congress of the People (cop) deputy political leader Prakash Ramadhar for saying that he should step down amidst allegations of bribery for FIFA presidential votes.
Warner returned from Zurich, Switzerland last night where he was suspended for 30 days from official football duties following the allegations, and while FIFA’s Ethics Committee conducts an investigation.
Speaking at the VIP lounge at Piarco International Airport last night, Warner dismissed his critics and expressed disappointment in Ramadhar who said he should step aside from his ministerial duties until his name is cleared.
Warner pointed out that COP elections were in the air and he expected that some would use this issue for “political mileage”.
Ramadhar, Sport Minister Anil Roberts and COP chairman Vernon De Lima have thrown their hats into the ring to be the next political leader of the party.
“My disappointment was Prakash Ramadhar, as a lawyer he should know better and he and I were good friends until now,” Warner said as he responded to Ramadhar’s statements that he should step aside as minister.
Warner pointed out that Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has publicly stated she stands in support of him.
He lashed out at Ramadhar, questioning how he could run for leadership of the party if he displayed this type of action.
“How can you be a political leader? This for me is nonsense. I am heartened by the stand that Anil took, I’m totally disappointed in Prakash Ramadhar... But if he believes this will help him, I wish him well,” Warner said.
He said if he had to step down, he would of his own accord and he did not need to be prompted to do so.
Warner stressed that people should not cast judgments too early.
“I know people want blood, they want Jack Warner but let us not be too hasty,” he said.
He said that even as he returned home the confusion in FIFA continued.
Warner said he intended to fight the battle to the end because these allegations were not against him but against the entire Caribbean football federation.
“I will give everything I have to uphold the Caribbean,” declared Warner.
Warner felt the love of his supporters last night as a large crowd filled the airport atrium to welcome him home.
He was greeted to a tassa roll as people armed with placards bearing the words “We support Jack Warner” chanted and cheered at the airport.
Warner embraced many of them.
Government members Therese Baptiste-Cornelis, Herbert Volney, Stacy Roopnarine, Emmanuel George, Rupert Griffith, Vernella Alleyne-Toppin, Lyndira Oudit as well as Chaguanas Mayor Orlando Nagessar were also present to welcome Warner home.
For almost a week Warner has been embroiled in controversy internationally and locally over bribery allegations made against him and Asian football chief Mohammed Bin Hammam.
Concacaf general secretary Chuck Blazer (who is disputing that he was fired this week) alleged that bribes were offered at a meeting at the Hyatt Regency (Trinidad) hotel in Port of Spain to members of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) to vote for Bin Hammam at the FIFA presidential elections Warner left for Zurich last Saturday where he and Bin Hammam faced FIFA’s Ethics Committee.
They were both suspended.
Bin Hammam dropped out of the election race and FIFA president Sepp Blatter was re-elected unopposed for another four-year term.

This is a sad day in T&T

Jack Warner Resigns

CNN reports

FIFA Vice-President Jack A. Warner resigns

Jack A. Warner has informed FIFA about his resignation from his posts in international football.

FIFA regrets the turn of events that have led to Mr Warner’s decision.

His resignation has been accepted by world football’s governing body, and his contribution to international football and to Caribbean football in particular and the CONCACAF confederation are appreciated and acknowledged.

Mr Warner is leaving FIFA by his own volition after nearly 30 years of service, having chosen to focus on his important work on behalf of the people and government of Trinidad and Tobago as a Cabinet Minister and as the Chairman of the United National Congress, the major party in his country’s coalition government.

The FIFA Executive Committee, the FIFA President and the FIFA management thank Mr Warner for his services to Caribbean, CONCACAF and international football over his many years devoted to football at both regional and international level, and wish him well for the future.

As a consequence of Mr Warner’s self-determined resignation, all Ethics Committee procedures against him have been closed and the presumption of innocence is maintained.

Last month Trinidadian Warner, along with fellow-FIFA member Mohammed bin Hammam, were provisionally suspended by FIFA's Ethics Committee, pending the outcome of an investigation of corruption allegations against them.

But, following Warner's resignation, that investigation will now not take place.

As a consequence of Mr Warner's self-determined resignation, all Ethics Committee procedures against him have been closed and the presumption of innocence is maintained

Well it don't make sense that you end up losing your Fifa job and Minister job at the same time to end up with nothing. Resign from Fifa and keep being a Minister.

Disappointed that Jack lost something as powerful as Vice President of Fifa but the corruption was to great.
