Road deaths go up, police plead for compliance
Police are once again asking citizens to exercise caution on the nation’s roadways.
This reminder comes following the death of 44-year-old Rodney Ramsundar in Penal yesterday morning. His death pushed the road fatality number up to 65.
While the toll for 2020 to date is 17 less than the comparative toll in 2019, police are noting that over the last three weeks there appeared to have been a spike in road fatalities.
As a result, police are calling on citizens, motorists and pedestrians alike, to exercise caution on the nation’s roadways.
Ramsundar, of Syne Village, Siparia, was killed at about 7 am on Monday while walking along Victor Street, in Penal. As he was walking, the crane of the truck, owned by Endecon Designs & Construction Ltd, reportedly came loose as the vehicle was driving, and hit the 44-year-old in the head. Ramsundar died as a result of the impact.
The driver of the vehicle, who lives at Mohess Road, Penal, was interviewed by the police. However, he was allowed to leave after giving a statement.
The truck was also impounded at the Siparia Police Station for an inspection to be carried out.
