Regarding the text message canvassing, is it that because the law only states: "canvassing or campaigning is not allowed neither should there be any broadcast via print, radio or television of a candidate. No-one is allowed to wear any party symbols or a political party promotional material as they go to the polling station." and does not mention social media, internet, text message etc that EBC is saying it is technically not illegal?

The law may not be specific to social media, but excludes anything other than what is listed above. Including text messages and iMessage.

Many people do consider text based messaging to be a form of social media, especially when broadcasted to groups

yes i know whatsapp is different from SMS text, but in the context here, both are "text messages".

thoughts?

The law is what it is for now. The political parties IMO are free to utilize the gaps in it to their advantage.

Well until they bother to update the ancient election laws, politicians can't complain about Tewarie texting people.

I voted for Kamla—Volney

Former justice minister Herbert Volney says there should be a good voter turnout today.

He said it will be a close race but in the end, "the people will vote wisely, that will be for the wise to interpret."

Volney, a former MP for St Joseph, was speaking with reporters outside of the Mt D'Or Government

Primary School around 8:50 am, after he cast his vote.

He was accompanied by his wife, Tricia.

Asked how he voted, Volney said, "You should know how I voted. I voted for Kamla."

WTF?

I saw her dancing on a truck in St Helena when PNM was doing their motorcade, prior to that I also spoke with her, she say how she want to end corruption and all that assness. She might win Caroni East when pigs fly.

The prospect of viewing election programs tonite on television with all kinds of panels of commentators and analysts bearly making sense is the last painful 'act' of election 2015.
......The nite of the usual suspects is here once more.

The EBC is reminding that ALL employees are to be afforded two hours off work to cast their ballots today.

There is to be no deduction from their salary/pay as a result.

This is outlined in the Representation of the People Act.

Failure to comply can result in a fine of $30,000 or 12 months imprisonment
