I bought a 55-200 locally for $1,200.00. They are great lenses but local guys only want to play the fool and not put out more than half the price they see on Amazon. They fail to realize that no everybody bring down their lens in a suitcase and some people actually paid taxes on the things. To get it sold quickly, go to KEH.com or BHphotovideo and check the price used, convert it to TT, then mark it down by 30% and hold your price. If you want a fair price, add 10% to the used price and wait for somebody who serious. I waited for a year for someone to buy my 18-55, but I got my price.

Thanks for the advice. Would do the calculations later.

I'm ready to keep it as novelty as it was a gift...and still buy the lens I want. I'm just curious as to what many consider reasonable.

If I did not have the 55-200, I might want it. Amazon has it for 208USD , which would translate into an asking price of $1500 locally. If you want a quick sale I guess $1,200.00 might make someone bag it quickly, or just keep it $1,400.00 and wait for a bight.

Thanks for the suggestion, at that price I'd keep it and use it till I have funds outright for the replacement.

Know of anyone locally with a 70-300 VR?

I used the 70-300mm at a wedding and its a very good lens. A lot of people don't realise that the 55-200mm is a very sharp lens, once they know how to use it.
But the 70-300 is better in terms of build quality, focus speed, and image quality( although this is subjective).
Also its a good investment because its a Full Frame lens, so in future if you decide to go up to that, you wont need a telephoto lens right away.

I actually use to have the 55-200 non vr and never had a problem with it at all. The quality was nice

The 70-300 on the other hand is a great telephoto lens

very nice baby shot!

I've notices a lot of photogs like to do high-key for baby shots, i wonder if that's an artistic thing or if it's an accepted common practice in the industry....

one time in the UK, I was taking a pic of a friend's baby and she was freaked out about the flash bouncing off the ceiling, she thought the bright light would burn her baby's skin - some ppl get all worked up with babies and bright light, so it pays to ask first, lol

No flash was used (except in one pic where I shot the balloon with off camera flash separately and the parents were in ambient light). Only a reflector was used intermittently. Funny thing with baby shots is that because of the low contrast of low diffused lighting I encounter most of the time, when you bring levels up to get a proper exposure on the baby's skin, which is slightly translucent (another challenge), the whites and highlights go way too high up. If you try to recover too much, the pinkish baby skin tones look muddy... kinda like bad HDR. I let the highlights go where they may and try to get a slightly bright exposure to get the real texture and look of the the baby's skin which is the most important thing to me (exposure wise) in a baby shoot. Parents tend to like it as I guess they have been trained by the marketing of photographers locally that a bright photo is a good photo. Happy client, no hours of dodging and burning for me.. win win situation.

One soft box, 45 degrees to her left and tilted down 45deg. Reflector to her right to fill in shadows. ambient light did not affect this photo... almost all flash. Flash in manual mode, triggered by camera popup.

^Good price, went and researched as soon as I saw them. You bought the x400?

Write speed seems to be relatively poor according to online reviews.
