1) Wired it up... nothing else.
2) never o/c never intend to unless i have a stable source of income to replace everything if they break.
3) Everything max 1080p on Metro2033 ~25fps with tessellation. Drops to 18fps at times. with high i get around 50fps. F1 2010 ~30fps Ultra.
Ever noticed using fraps decreases your fps? that happens now with me.

4) None unless something stops working. Hopefully by then I can afford to rebuild an i5 or i7.

Yea im lame and poor like that :|

Rig:
E8400 3.0Ghz

too lazy to type it out so i here is a pic

Image

Mods now-

First off this rig was built back in 07 so it wasnt really made for gaming

my first PC was a Windows 98 cant remember the Make, but it was all white the stupid CRT and all that stuff, after that system konk out i kept all the parts except the Case and the guts, built this system with the K8MMV and rallied with the 98 parts

1st Mod- Monitor - Changed and got a AOC 19"
RAM was upgraded from 428mb -> 2GB
Speakers were upgraded to the X540 ( i still kept the 98 Speakers they still working btw)
GPU- went from onboard 64mb- a 4650 1GB AGP
Keyboard- yea yea i still usin a PS2 keyboard from Xtech
Mouse- Dell Laser Mouse
Added a second HDD(320GB)
i currently use a 450w PSU
Colorsit Mid-Tower Case
2 Optical Drives
1 floppy drive
Logitech USB Headset

FPS- hmm about 30-40 fps depends on the game though

So yea, thats my rig ROFL

3 towers.

1st one specs:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3ghz
Thermalright SI-128 SE hsf with 120mm fan
EVGA 790i SLi Ultra mainboard
2 x 2gb Patriot EXtreme DDR3 1333MHz
PNY GTX 275
200GB IDE hard drive
Samsung DVDRW sata
Soundblaster Audigy soundcard
Ultra xfinity 600w sli power supply
Thermaltake Armor black case (painted black inside)

Max stable o/c was 3.6Ghz.

2nd one specs:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 @ 3Ghz
EVGA 790i SLi Digital PWM FTW mainboard
2 x 2GB Supertalent Gold series DDR3 @ 1333Mhz
EVGA GTX 295 CO-Op Edition
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS soundcard
Ultra 750W power supply
500GB Western Digital Blue hard drive
LiteON BDROM drive
Thermaltake Kandalf LCS case
Mods to case: painted the tool free drive bay holders/rear and top fan holders green (nvidia theme). Single 12" UV neon sound activated to highlight the UV reactive green coolant.

Highest stable o/c: 4.35Ghz

3rd system specs:

Intel Core i7 930 @ 3GHz
Noctua UHP-12 SE 1366 edition with two 120mm Noctua fans
EVGA x58 3X SLi mainboard
3 x 2GB Markvision Value DDR3 RAM
2 x Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 1GB gpus in crossfire mode
640GB WD hard drive
Samsung DVDRW
Corsair TX750W power supply
Zalman 6 channel fan controller
Antec 1200 full tower case with two rear Antec 120mm 3 speed fans, top 200mm 3 speed fan, 3 x 120mm coolermaster Blue LED 110CFM fans.

Highest stable o/c so far is 4Ghz

Most crazy o/c i ever posted was 4.5GHz on an Intel Xeon E3110 3Ghz dual core cpu.
Achieved that on a Biostar TPower I45 Intel P45 mainboard under a Corsair Nautilus 500 external liquid cooling system.

Never really average any FPS in games but at highest settings at 1920*1080 resolutions i always get over 30fps with Systems 2 and 3.

Upgrades usually occur when i spot something at a good price 8-)

tell me something, is there any advantage to using a Xeon/workstation processor for gaming as opposed to the others?

i read in some articles that gaming taxes ur video cards much more, and things like RAM, HDD speed are usually the bottlenecking culprits rather than processors

to some extent yes!

i know men who got better gameplay/loading times with SSDs and striped drives.

i am thinking if gettin an SSD as well..
cuz i know somewhere alone the lines i am bottlenecking(sp) my 2 gtx 480s....

but for your harddrive to be a slight hold back, u going to have to be running some high resolutions with serious details.. i max out everything.. x32 and x8.. highest details on every game and there isnt no hold back wat so ever..thats at 1920x1080p res...

but... loading times in game and b4 game can be better i know for sure

What's your views on this people?

http://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.a ... d%20Family

WRT SLI in x8 and x8, i did a bit of research and found out that there isnt much difference from x16 + x16 there is a loss in FPS like 3 or 4 so for the most, i believe i posted it up here already but its in someone of those pages, cant remember which though

the whole selling point of P55 is the fact that there is no bottleneck, x8x8 can run 2 ares 5870x2 with no loss in performance

Yes 4-5 fps is about 1% decrease exactly the drop you get from running 8 x 8x remember the guide to fps
100fps and over very old game or 4+gtx/5000 series LOL
65 and over is the best possible fps this gives the best possible gaming experience
45 is moderate
25-35 you do the math

At the same time just think you spend all that cash and still loose a 1% in COD that could mean you stab and to you made a kill but in reality U missed (yes there are other factors ie connection lag latency etc) but fps have been known to be the root of most miss information

once i can play my games over 40-50fps i happy.

that article just saying to me that the bandwidth not even being exceeded yet! and that's just amazing!

BTW i'm seeing the 5xxx's like the 59xx are PCI express are 2.1... Anything new on that? i doubt its more bandwidth already :|

gracen nice board but no SATA 6 no USB 3.0 but besides that sweet when i look at a mainboard now its all about trying to get your hands on the latest tech out there

If i was to go with an intel board i would look for specs as listed before and tho it may cost a few bucks more i would loose the quad SLI for a single or double pcie just to cut cost and use the balance for CPU or GPU

Unless your really want SLI i dont see the need to buy a mobo with quad or triple and not use
