Ok so how Mr. Manning put out Ken Valley in 2007 despite the overwhelming popular support for that MP in Diego Mar­tin Cen­tral? And the PNM moved on and still won that elections.

Something sinister and rotting is at the PNM's core at this point wrt to this member. And why there are no whistle blowers? If it was UNC, at least the "backstabbing" and conscience for the population made everything transparent to the public. That excuse "what have they been charged with?" is lame and the people who say it know it. A politician is held to high standards in the public's eye, it's just both sides seem to love the corruption. Everyone knows they wrong that they do, but the people who say "where the evidence, have they been charged?" are fanatic grassroots who don't care out this nation. They would rather go on eating dirt and watching these MPs continue to become fat cats at the taxpayer's expense. That is what most of Trinidad politics are. People who want power and want to get rich wtih corrupt schemes, then leave. Is every man for himself.

Look the UNC as it is, is a failed party and nobody expects anything of them at this point. But why can't the PNM keep themselves in check? Why they need an Opposition to tell them what they're doing is wrong? Why the PNM backbenchers and senators not talking about it? They wanted to serve the country, or just collect the Parliament salary with no integrity? Why the PNM voters not asking themselves these things? I know the UNC voters did when they voted Panday out for the corruption and chose the COP instead in 2007. I know they did in 2015 when they voted Kamla out.

Has the PNM become a cult of personality rather than the promises they make on the elections platform?! The current PM has contradicted himself so much since 2015 and has not taken responsibility for anything this country yet, far less for his Members of Cabinet. So rather than do the right thing and take the fall, reform the party, and make the country better for the next generation by example, some people would prefer the status quo?

T&T donates masks to China



The gov­ern­ment has do­nat­ed thou­sands of masks to Chi­na to help con­trol the coro­n­avirus out­break.

Min­is­ter of For­eign and Cari­com Af­fairs, Den­nis Moses told the me­dia yes­ter­day that the do­na­tion in­clud­ed 13,600 N95 res­pi­ra­tor masks, 1,000 N95 sur­gi­cal masks and 400 oth­er masks.

The masks were val­ued at TT$150,000.

Cur­rent­ly, there are two Trinidad and To­ba­go na­tion­als at the heart of the virus out­break. One is lo­cat­ed in the virus’ epi­cen­tre of Wuhan while the oth­er, who isn’t in the cap­i­tal city re­mains in the Hubei province.

“Our ad­vice is - and it has been de­ter­mined- the safest op­tion and the best op­tion is to re­main in place and fol­low the guide­lines of the lo­cal Chi­nese au­thor­i­ties.”

He added: “There are suf­fi­cient rea­sons so as to not en­ter­tain leav­ing Chi­na at this point in time,” Moses said as he al­lud­ed to the dif­fi­cul­ty in leav­ing the coun­try due to in­ter­na­tion­al trav­el re­stric­tions for any­one leav­ing the Chi­nese main­land.

How­ev­er, he not­ed that this ad­vice was sub­ject to change as the sit­u­a­tion con­tin­ues to de­vel­op. This is why he said the min­istry is con­tin­u­ous­ly mon­i­tor­ing the un­fold­ing sit­u­a­tion in Chi­na and any changes would be com­mu­ni­cat­ed to the ap­prox­i­mate 120 T&T cit­i­zens liv­ing in Chi­na.

But in the same breath, he not­ed that no cit­i­zen would be barred from en­ter­ing the coun­try.

“Should na­tion­als choose the op­tion of leav­ing and mak­ing there way back to Trinidad, of course, they would be wel­comed. They would not be de­barred but part and par­cel of that arrange­ment would be the need to sub­ject one’s self to quar­an­tine and the trav­el re­stric­tions that are in place,” he said.

Min­is­ter Moses said the T&T Em­bassy in Bei­jing was keep­ing track of those T&T na­tion­als in Chi­na who checked in with them.

“Mem­bers of staff from the em­bassy, on a day-to-day ba­sis, are in con­tact with per­sons who are on the Wechat (Chi­nese mes­sag­ing app) plat­form and they of­fer up­dates and of­fer ad­vi­sories, per­sons in dis­tress are ac­com­mo­dat­ed,” he said.

National Pride, but i srs this time. they could paint it purple and rainbow green for all i care. Once it have bus and qualified drivers for the people. But i find that livery looking good though. Devant eh have nothing better to do this hour?

I wish they would fix the roads. Fix them and upkeep them. I would truly and sincerely have real national pride then! I would be so proud if our country had good roads and not a car-crushing minefield to navigate daily.

Contractors union: Lake Asphalt facing closure



Amid unconfirmed reports that Lake Asphalt does not have money to keep the company operational after Carnival, workers of the state-owned company staged a vociferous protest outside the La Brea compound on Tuesday morning.

The placard-toting workers led by the president general of the Contractors and General Trade Union (CGWTU), Joseph Phillip, called on the Prime Minister and Energy Minister Franklin Khan to state clearly what is the company’s economic position.

Emphasising that they were not engaged in a “political protest” but a “bread and butter” protest, the workers nevertheless told the Government if they “closed the gates of LATT our fingers will talk.”

Phillip made no secret of the fact that he is a member of the People’s National Movement (PNM), but declared,” the PNM says they red and ready but the pitch black and we will turn our back.”

He accused the board and management of mismanaging the money in LATT’s coffers spending on "hair-brained" projects without proper technical guidance. “They spent it (money) like a river running to the point where we are not sure we will have work after Carnival. We want somebody to tell us why.”

Rayburn Noble, chairman of the LATT branch of CGWTU, said, “When the board was appointed in 2016, it is our understanding they met over US$275 million in operating capital. Today, they are saying they are not sure they can make wages come March.”

An attempt by PNM councillor for La Brea Gerald Debisette, a former Lake Asphalt worker to reassure colleagues that, “nobody will be going home,” sparked outrage by the protesters and an end to his address.

Before being “kindly asked to leave”, Debisette who retired from the company last year after almost 40 years service, said LATT was the heartbeat of La Brea.“I bring word from the PNM Government that nobody will be going home. That is guaranteed,” he said to shouts of “that is propaganda. We want to hear it from the Minister of Energy.” Debisette did not say what was the source of his statement.

He continued that an inter-ministerial team comprising the ministers of energy, trade and industry and finance was put together to address the LATT issue.

LATT CEO Roger Wiggins said he would issue a statement but had not done so as of 5 pm. Calls to Khan, the line minister for LATT, went unanswered.
